Objective: To explore the perceptions and experiences of mental health service users and healthcare workers regarding the implementation of district mental healthcare plans (DMHPs) in three district demonstration sites in Ghana.
Design: The study employed a qualitative design using reflexive thematic analysis. Interview data were analysed by combining inductive and deductive approaches.

Medical professionals today have access to immense amounts of data, which enables them to make decisions that enhance patient care and treatment efficacy. This innovative strategy can improve global health care by bridging the divide between clinical practice and medical research. This paper reviews biomedical developments aimed at improving patient outcomes by addressing three main questions regarding techniques, data sources and challenges.

Background: Clinical decision-making is increasingly shifting towards data-driven approaches and requires large databases to develop state-of-the-art algorithms for diagnosing, detecting and predicting diseases. The intensive care unit (ICU), a data-rich setting, faces challenges with high-frequency, unstructured monitor data. Here, we showcase a successful example of a data pipeline to efficiently move patient data to the cloud environment for structured storage.

Left atrial strain (LAS) was recently introduced as a parameter that reflects on left atrial function. Consequently, changes in LAS can inform the development of cardiovascular diseases, hence providing a window for non-invasive and cost-effective testing of these diseases and their complications at early stages of development, potentially offering a segway towards preventive interventions. LAS has yet to be implemented into standard practice.
