In this article, polyvinyl alcohol/phytic acid polymer (PVA/PA polymer) is synthesized from PVA and PA via the esterification reaction of PVA and PA in the case of acidity and ultrasound irradiation, and PVA/PA polymer sponge is prepared via foaming PVA/PA polymer in the presence of n-pentane and ammonium bicarbonate, and the structure of PVA/PA polymer and the structure, morphology and crystallinity of PVA/PA polymer sponge are characterized, and the thermal stability and surface resistivity of PVA/PA polymer sponge are investigated. Based on these, it has been attested that PVA/PA polymer synthesized under the acidity and ultrasound irradiation and PVA/PA polymer sponge are structured by the chain of PVA and the cricoid PA connected in the form of ether bonds and phosphonate bonds, and the thermal stability of PVA/PA polymer sponge attains 416.5 °C, and the surface resistivity of PVA/PA polymer sponge reaches 5.76 × 10 ohms/sq.

As the important barrier of intraocular tissue, cornea is easy to suffer various kinds of injuries. Among them, acute alkali burn is a thorny ophthalmic emergency event, which can lead to corneal persistent epithelial defects, ulcers, and even perforation. Ferroptosis, a mode of regulatory cell death, has been found to play a key role in the process of corneal alkali burn, of which lipid peroxidation and intracellular iron levels are considered to be the possible therapeutic targets.

Enhancing the stability of biomass and ensuring a stable activity of anaerobic ammonia oxidizing bacteria are crucial for successful operation of the simultaneous partial nitrification, Anammox, and denitrification (SNAD) process. In this study, gel beads of polyvinyl alcohol/phytic acid (PVA/PA) and polyvinyl alcohol/phytic acid/Fe (PVA/PA/Fe) were prepared as innovative bio-carriers. Theoretical simulations and analyses revealed that these carriers are predominantly connected via hydrogen and borate bonds, with PVA/PA/Fe also featuring metal coordination bonds.

Although conductive hydrogels (CHs) have been investigated as the wearable sensor in recent years, how to prepare the multifunctional CHs with long-term usability is still a big challenge. In this paper, we successfully prepared a kind of conductive and self-adhesive hydrogel with a simple method, and its excellent ductility makes it possible as a flexible strain sensor for intelligent monitoring. The CHs are constructed by poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA), polydopamine (PDA), and phytic acid (PA) through the freeze-thaw cycle method.

Piperic acid, a natural product-based derivative, has been used with polyvinyl alcohol for the first time to form polymer composite films for its suitable modification in physicochemical and antimicrobial properties. Initially, piperic acid was synthesized from piperine, a natural alkaloid extracted from black pepper (Piper nigrum). The solvent casting method was used for the synthesis of PVA-piperic acid composite films.

This research endeavor aims to develop polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) based films capable of blends with silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) for improved antibacterial properties and good mechanical strength to widen its scope in the field of wound dressing and bandages. This study reports synthesis of propylamine-substituted PVA (PA-PVA), Ag-NPs via chemical and green methods (starch capping) and their blended films in various proportions. Employment of starch-capped Ag-NPs as nanofillers into PVA films has substantially improved the above-mentioned properties in the ensuing nanocomposites.
