Fibromyalgia (FM) is a common chronic pain with no established treatment. Acupuncture is an expected treatment for FM though a diagnosis of FM tends to be delayed, and the advantage is still unclear in early-phase intervention with acupuncture treatment for FM. A 51-year-old woman with panic disorder presented with a four-month history of whole-body pain and was diagnosed with FM.

Surgical navigation via mixed reality (MR) can help achieve precise wire placement in a low-profile form factor. Current approaches in this domain are as yet unsuitable for real-world deployment because they fall short of guaranteeing accurate visual feedback due to uncontrolled bending of the wire.

Background: Carbon-ion radiotherapy provides steep dose gradients that allow the simultaneous application of high tumor doses as well as the sparing of healthy tissue and radio-sensitive organs. However, even small anatomical changes may have a severe impact on the dose distribution because of the finite range of ion beams.
Purpose: An in-vivo monitoring method based on secondary-ion emission could potentially provide feedback about the patient anatomy and thus the treatment quality.
