Isomalto/malto-polysaccharides (IMMPs) are soluble dietary fibres produced by the enzymatic modification of starch with 4,6-α-glucanotransferase (GTFB). The structure, size, and linkage distribution of these IMMPs has remained largely unknown, since most structural information has been based on indirect measurements such as total α-(1→6) content, iodine staining and GTFB hydrolytic activity. This study provides a deeper understanding of IMMP structure in relation to its respective starch substrate, by combining preparative fractionation with linkage compositition analysis. IMMPs were produced from a variety of amylose-rich and amylose-free starches. The extent of modification was investigated per IMMP molecular weight (M)-fraction, distinguishing between linear α-(1→6) linkages introduced by GTFB and starch's native α-(1→4,6) branching points. It emerged that the amount of α-(1→6) linkages was consistently higher in IMMP low M-fractions and that GTFB activity was limited by native α-(1→4,6) linkages. The presence of amylose turned out to be a prerequisite for the incorporation of linear α-(1→6) linkages in amylopectin.

We investigated if selected polymorphisms in DNA repair genes modify the association between exposure to particulate matter ≤ 10 micron in diameter (PM) and breast cancer (BCa) risk. We included 150,929 postmenopausal women (5,969 with BCa) from UK Biobank, a population-based prospective cohort. Cancer diagnoses were ascertained through the linkage to the UK National Health Service Central Registers.

This study investigates the optimization of four gluten free flours namely sorghum, rice, teff flours, and 3% flaxseed flour blends to enhance the quality , which was traditionally baked with only pure teff. Utilizing a D-optimal mixture design, ratios were varied (sorghum 43%-50%, rice 20%-27%, teff 23%-30%). Methods followed AOAC and AACC standards, analyzed using Minitab 19.

Cherries are one of the economically important fruit crops in the Rosaceae family, genus. As the first fruits of the spring season in the northern hemisphere, their attractive appearance, intensely desirable tastes, high nutrients content, and consumer-friendly size captivate consumers worldwide. In the past 30 years, although cherry geneticists and breeders have greatly progressed in understanding the genetic and molecular basis underlying fruit quality, adaptation to climate change, and biotic and abiotic stress resistance, the utilization of cherry genomic data in genetics and molecular breeding has remained limited to date.

Background: Knowledge of which medications may lead to acute kidney injury (AKI) is limited, relying mostly on spontaneous reporting in pharmacovigilance systems. We here conducted an exploratory drug-wide association study (DWAS) to screen for associations between dispensed drugs and AKI risk.
Methods: Using two large Danish and Swedish data linkages, we identified AKI hospitalizations occurring between April 1997 and December 2021 in Denmark and between March 2007 and December 2021 in Sweden.
Despite high rates of substance use, youth involved in the juvenile justice system are unlikely to be linked to the treatment services they need. Family Connect is a flexible, family-focused, linkage intervention developed to address multilevel barriers and increase youth engagement in care through the introduction of a linkage specialist. We describe the components of Family Connect and present findings from the intervention pilot test comparing 18 youth-caregiver dyads to 95 historical controls on referral, attending intake and initiating treatment.
