Marshall R. Urist was an American orthopedic surgeon who worked in University of California at Los Angeles. His scientific work about bone formation brought to medical science the discovery of a bone growth inductor substance known as bone morphogenetic protein in 1965. This biographical document about Urist reviews his life, career, classic scientific papers and those landmark contributions to medical science.
