Aim of this work was the detection of fission products activity distribution along the axial dimension of irradiated fuel elements (FEs) at the TRIGA Mark II research reactor of the Technische Universität (TU) Wien. The activity distribution was measured by means of a customized fuel gamma scanning device, which includes a vertical lifting system to move the fuel rod along its vertical axis. For each investigated FE, a gamma spectrum measurement was performed along the vertical axis, with steps of 1 cm, in order to determine the axial distribution of the fission products. After the fuel elements underwent a relatively short cooling down period, different fission products were detected. The activity concentration was determined by calibrating the gamma detector with a standard calibration source of known activity and by MCNP6 simulations for the evaluation of self-absorption and geometric effects. Given the specific TRIGA fuel composition, a correction procedure is developed and used in this work for the measurement of the fission product Zr. This measurement campaign is part of a more extended project aiming at the modelling of the TU Wien TRIGA reactor by means of different calculation codes (MCNP6, Serpent): the experimental results presented in this paper will be subsequently used for the benchmark of the models developed with the calculation codes.

Recycling waste salt in the dry reprocessing of nuclear fuel and reducing electric energy consumption in the electrorefining process are crucial steps toward addressing significant challenges in this field. The present study proposes a novel approach to purify waste salt by selectively adsorbing excessive fission products using 5A molecular sieves (5A), based on the principles of electrorefining, with the ultimate aim of achieving sustainable development in nuclear fuel. First, Lutetium (Lu)-Bi alloy was synthesized through constant potential electrolysis in the LiCl-KCl-LuCl melt, resulting in a 90.

Hydrogen sulfide (HS) is bioactive in mammals. Reduced HS was observe in pregnancy complications, pre-eclampsia (PE). Our previous data demonstrated that low dose of H2S enhanced cytotrophoblast (CTB) invasion and migration via mitochondria dynamics without knowing the mechanisms.

Mitochondrial homeostasis is crucial for maintaining cellular energy production and preventing oxidative stress, which is essential for overall cellular function and longevity. Mitochondrial damage and dysfunction often occur concomitantly in myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury (MIRI). Notoginsenoside R1 (NGR1), a unique saponin from the traditional Chinese medicine Panax notoginseng, has been shown to alleviate MIRI in previous studies, though its precise mechanism remains unclear.

Mitochondria, the cellular powerhouses, are pivotal to neuronal function and health, particularly through their role in regulating synaptic structure and function. Spine reprogramming, which underlies synapse development, depends heavily on mitochondrial dynamics-such as biogenesis, fission, fusion, and mitophagy as well as functions including ATP production, calcium (Ca) regulation, and retrograde signaling. Mitochondria supply the energy necessary for assisting synapse development and plasticity, while also regulating intracellular Ca homeostasis to prevent excitotoxicity and support synaptic neurotransmission.

Pesticides and plastics have brought convenience to agricultural production and daily life, but they have also led to environmental pollution through residual chemicals. Emamectin benzoate (EMB) is among the most widely used insecticides, which can cause environmental pollution and harm the health of organisms. Additionally, microplastics (MPs), a relatively new type of pollutant, not only are increasing in residual amounts within water bodies and aquatic organisms but also exacerbate pollution by adsorbing other pollutants, leading to a mixed pollution scenario.
