Seeded emulsion polymerizations of styrene are modeled on the basis of a detailed kinetic scheme accounting for the chain length and conversion dependence of termination rate coefficients. A holistic kinetic Monte Carlo approach was developed, which simulates the elemental reactions in the aqueous phase, the transfer of radicals into individual particles, and the radical polymerization in each particle based on a complete kinetic model. Experimentally-derived particle size distributions are used as input for the simulations. The required rate coefficients were taken from literature. Without any adjustment of this data a very good agreement between simulation results and experimental data is found. The validation of the model is performed based on monomer conversion - time data and full molar mass distributions.

We investigate the aging properties of phase-separation kinetics following quenches from T=∞ to a finite temperature below T_{c} of the paradigmatic two-dimensional conserved Ising model with power-law decaying long-range interactions ∼r^{-(2+σ)}. Physical aging with a power-law decay of the two-time autocorrelation function C(t,t_{w})∼(t/t_{w})^{-λ/z} is observed, displaying a complex dependence of the autocorrelation exponent λ on σ. A value of λ=3.

Polystyrene (PS) presents a significant environmental challenge due to its durability and resistance to degradation. A major issue in addressing this challenge is optimizing the pyrolysis process to selectively convert PS into valuable products, such as styrene, while minimizing unwanted byproducts. Pyrrolizidine alkaloids N-oxides (PA-N-oxides) are predominant in plants and herbal foods, and are converted to pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs) upon consumption, leading to toxicity. The effect of interindividual kinetic differences on the relative potency values of PA-N-oxides compared to their PAs (REP) was studied, with riddelliine N-oxide (RIDO) and riddelliine (RID) as model compounds. In vitro kinetic data measured in incubations with 30 fecal and 25 liver S9 donor samples showed high variation across individuals, where the interindividual variability was captured with Bayesian multilevel regression.
