Published: August 2018

Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the role of several cytokines including IL-2, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, and TNF- in the diagnosis of HPB cancers.

Materials And Methods: The prospective study was performed between October 2007 and September 2014. The study included 226 patients who were divided into 5 groups depending on their postoperative and histopathologic diagnosis: Control group included 30 healthy volunteers. Hepatocellular cancer (HCC) group included 24 patients diagnosed with HCC. Gallbladder cancer (GBC) group included 36 patients diagnosed with GBC. Cholangiocellular carcinoma group included 64 patients diagnosed with cholangiocellular carcinoma. Pancreatic cancer group included 72 patients diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Serum levels of IL-2, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, and TNF- were measured using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kit in accordance with the guidelines of the producer.

Results: Serum TNF- concentration was significantly higher in the cholangiocellular carcinoma and pancreatic cancer groups compared to other groups. IL-6 and IL-10 were significantly increased in both the HCC and GBC groups, IL-2, IL-6, IL-10, and TNF- in the cholangiocellular carcinoma group, and IL-2, IL-6, IL-8, and TNF- in the pancreatic cancer group.

Conclusion: We suggest that cytokines can be used as useful markers in the diagnosis of HPB cancers.

Background: Hypertension is the leading risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD). Despite advances in blood pressure management, significant racial and ethnic disparities persist, resulting in higher risks of stroke, heart disease, and mortality among non-White populations. Self-measured blood pressure (SMBP) monitoring, also known as home blood pressure monitoring, has shown promise in improving blood pressure control, especially when combined with feedback from healthcare providers.

Background: Hereditary predisposition to breast and ovarian cancer syndrome (HBOC) is a pathological condition with increased cancer risk, including breast (BC), ovarian cancer (OC), and others. HBOC pathogenesis is caused mainly by germline pathogenic variants (GPV) in BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes. However, other relevant genes are related to this syndrome diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment, including TP53, PALB2, CHEK2, ATM, etc.

Background: The triglyceride glucose-body mass index (TyG-BMI) is considered to be a reliable surrogate marker of insulin resistance (IR). However, limited evidence exists regarding its association with the severity of coronary artery disease (CAD), particularly in hypertensive patients with different glucose metabolic states, including those with H-type hypertension. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between TyG-BMI and CAD severity across different glucose metabolism conditions.

Objective: The surgical team in this study examined the efficacy of a modified reverse sural neurocutaneous flap repair in treating soft tissue defects of the ankle and foot caused by accidents.

Methods: This study enrolled 89 patients treated for soft tissue defects of the ankle or foot between January 2007 and December 2023. The patients were divided into two groups: 44 patients underwent a modified reverse sural neurocutaneous flap repair, while 45 received traditional treatment.

Objectives: Transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER) is an alternative for patients with severe degenerative mitral regurgitation (MR). The objective of this study was to compare the outcomes of surgery and TEER in older patients with degenerative MR patients using real life data.

Methods: Consecutives older patients (≥ 65 years-old), with severe symptomatic, degenerative MR requiring surgery or TEER between 2013 and 2023 were included.
