Background: The equipment to detect indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence for sentinel lymph node (SLN) biopsy in breast cancer is not widely accessible nor optimal. The fluorescence appears as a poorly defined white shine on a black background, and dimmed lighting is required. The aim of this study was to assess the feasibility, accuracy and healthcare costs of a novel approach for SLN biopsy by a video-assisted ICG-guided technique.
Methods: The technique for detecting SLN was radioisotope (RI) in 194 cases, video-assisted ICG-guided in 70 cases and a combined method in 71 cases. In the video-assisted ICG group, a full HD laparoscopic system equipped with xenon lamps was used for a laser-free detection of ICG within a colored and magnified high-resolution image.
Results: Detection of ICG fluorescence using a laparoscope with a near-infrared filter provided a highly defined and colored image during SLN biopsy. SLN was identified in 100% of patients in all groups. Multiple SLNs were identified in 0.5% of RI patients, in 12.9% of ICG patients and in 14.1% of ICG + RI patients (p < 0.0001). In ICG + RI group, 95.1% of lymph nodes were radioactive and 92.7% were fluorescent. Operative times and healthcare costs were equivalent between groups.
Conclusions: Video-assisted ICG-guided technique is a feasible and surgeon-friendly method for SLN biopsy, with equivalent efficacy compared to RI, providing an accurate staging of the axilla.

Background: The definition of T1b cutaneous melanoma was changed in the 8th edition of the AJCC staging system based on survival differences but not risk of sentinel lymph node (SLN) metastases. We sought to evaluate changes in SLN biopsy (SLNB) use and rates of positive SLNB in response to updated staging criteria, and to evaluate the incidence of high-risk features in T1a melanoma in whom SLNB is now recommended.
Study Design: The 2021 National Cancer Database Melanoma PUF was used to obtain SLNB utilization and positivity rates in T1 (thin) melanoma (thickness ≤1.

The use of dual-tracer contrast agents in clinical applications, such as sentinel lymph node (SLN) identification, offers significant advantages including enhanced accuracy, sensitivity, as well as comprehensive and multimodal visualization. In the current clinical practice, SLNs are typically marked prior to surgical resection by multiple and sequential injections of two tracers, the radioactive tracer and methylene blue (MB) dye. This imposes physical and psychological burden on patients and medical staff.

Objective: This retrospective study aimed to evaluate the predictive value of the preoperative dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) and diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) findings of mass lesions for predicting sentinel lymph node (SLN) metastasis in early breast cancer.
Methods: A total of 310 patients with suspicious mass lesions detected in preoperative MRI who subsequently underwent surgery and SLN biopsy (SLNB) between September 2015 and September 2022 were analyzed. The relationship between DCE-MRI and DWI findings and SLNB positivity was analyzed.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a debilitating neurodegenerative disorder characterized by motor and non-motor symptoms, with limited effective treatment options. This study proposes a novel approach utilizing intranasal delivery of carbenoxolone (CBX) via chitosan-coated solid lipid nanoparticles (CS-coated SLNs) to manage PD symptoms by enhancing CBX delivery and brain targeting. Formulated CS-coated SLNs exhibited favorable quality attributes including particle size (164 ± 0.

: In this paper, we investigate the association of glycoprotein 96 (GP96) and androgen receptor (AR) expression with clinicopathological factors, additional axillary lymph node burden, and their potential role in predicting 5-year overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) in breast cancer (BC) patients with sentinel lymph node (SLN) involvement. We also explore the prognostic value of the presence of extranodal extension (ENE) in SLN. : We retrospectively enrolled 107 female patients with cT1-T2 invasive BC and positive SLN biopsy.
