Sticking a twist to a partially coherent source cannot be done at will, since the result can violate the definiteness property of the corresponding cross-spectral density. As a matter of fact, the study of twisted sources has been mainly concentrated on the original case proposed by Simon and Mukunda [J. Opt. Soc. Am. A10, 95 (1993)JOAOD60740-323210.1364/JOSAA.10.000095] of circularly symmetric Gaussian Schell-model sources. Here, we discuss a modeling procedure that can be used to generate numberless genuine twisted sources without symmetry constraints. As geometrically simple examples, two cases of non-Gaussian twisted sources endowed with circular or rectangular symmetry are explicitly worked out.

To address the challenges of global warming and the greenhouse effect, extensive research has been dedicated to microgrids (MGs) powered by renewable energy sources (RESs). This paper presents an innovative control mechanism, the synergetic simplified super-twisting algorithm (SSSTA), designed specifically for a DC-MG incorporating a battery energy storage system (BESS), a solar photovoltaic (PV) unit, and DC loads. The PV system connects to a shared DC bus via a unidirectional DC-DC boost converter, optimized for maximum power point tracking from the PV generator.

A recent experiment has observed a series of quantum-spin-Hall effects in moiré MoTe. Among them, the vanishing Hall signal at the filling factor ν = 3 implies a possible realization of a time-reversal pair of even-denominator fractional Chern insulators. Inspired by this discovery, we numerically investigate whether a robust incompressible quantum-Hall liquid can be stabilized in the half-filled Chern band of twisted MoTe bilayers.

Despite decades of research and development, myoelectric prosthetic hands lack functionality and are often rejected by users. This lack in functionality can be partially attributed to the widely accepted anthropomorphic design ideology in the field; attempting to replicate human hand form and function despite severe limitations in control and sensing technology. Instead, prosthetic hands can be tailored to perform specific tasks without increasing complexity by shedding the constraints of anthropomorphism.

When propagating within a parabolic potential, the CHUBs periodically focus on optical needles. By extending the Heisenberg equation from quantum mechanics to optics, we theoretically demonstrate that introducing a linear chirp phase and offset modulation causes the optical needles to propagate along spiral trajectories.

Arrayed ultraviolet (UV) LED light sources have been widely applied in various semiconductor processes, ranging from photopolymerization to lithography. In practical cases, based on data provided by manufacturers, calibration of individual UV LEDs is often needed before their real usage in high-precision applications. In this paper, we present a high-precision, automated light source measurement platform, which can be applied to the performance evaluation of various types of light sources.
