We investigate supercontinuum generation (SCG) in AsSe-AsS chalcogenide microstructured optical fibers (MOFs) pumped by different optical modes. The influence on SCG by different optical modes including the fundamental and high-order modes is analyzed numerically. The evolution of the supercontinuum (SC) is investigated by changing the pump wavelength (2120, 2580, and 3280 nm) and peak power (from 200 to 1000 W) of each optical mode (LP,LP,LP) in the MOFs with different fiber lengths. SCG in MOFs with different core diameters is also simulated. The different optical modes cause the variation of the chromatic dispersion profile and the effective nonlinearity, which induces different mechanisms of the SCG and changes the spectral range. The maximum SC spectral range covers 12.931 μm from 1.389 to 14.320 μm when pumped by the LP mode with the peak power of 1000 W at 3280 nm. The simulated results will be instructive for the experimental SCG up to the midinfrared waveband longer than 10 μm.

Band topology has emerged as a novel tool for material design across various domains, including photonic and phononic systems, and metamaterials. A prominent model for band topology is the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) chain, which reveals topological in-gap states within Bragg-type gaps (BG) formed by periodic modification. Apart from classical BGs, another mechanism for bandgap formation in metamaterials involves strong coupling between local resonances and propagating waves, resulting in a local resonance-induced bandgap (LRG).

Friction stir spot welding (FSSW) technology relies on the generation of frictional heat during the rotation of the welding tool in contact with the workpiece as well as the stirring effect of the tool pin to produce solid-state spot joints, especially for lightweight materials. Although FSSW offers significant advantages over traditional fusion welding, the oxidation of the interfacial bond line remains one of the most challenging issues, affecting the quality and strength of the joint under both static and cyclic loading conditions. In this experimental study, inert argon gas was employed to surround the joint, aiming to prevent or minimize the formation of the interfacial oxides.

A Hz level narrow linewidth all-optical microwave oscillator based on the torsional radial acoustic modes (TR) of a single-mode fiber (SMF) is proposed and validated. The all-optical microwave oscillator consists of a 20 km SMF main ring cavity and a 5 km SMF sub ring cavity. The main ring cavity provides forward stimulated Brillouin scattering gain and utilizes a nonlinear polarization rotation effect to achieve TR mode locking.

We present direct frequency comb cavity ring-down spectroscopy with Vernier filtering as a straightforward approach to sensitive and multiplexed trace gas detection. The high finesse cavity acts both to extend the interaction length with the sample and as a spectral filter, alleviating the need for dispersive elements or an interferometer. In this demonstration, a free running interband cascade laser was used to generate a comb centered at 3.
