Since its arrival in early 2006, various instruments aboard NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) have been collecting a variety of scientific and engineering data from orbit around Mars. Among these is the SHAllow RADar (SHARAD) instrument, supplied by Agenzia Spaziale Italiana (ASI) and designed for subsurface sounding in the 15-25 MHz frequency band. As of this writing, MRO has completed over 46,000 nearly polar orbits of Mars, 30% of which have included active SHARAD data collection. By 2009, a sufficient density of SHARAD coverage had been obtained over the polar regions to support 3-D processing and analysis of the data. Using tools and techniques commonly employed in terrestrial seismic data processing, we have processed subsets of the resulting collection of SHARAD observations covering the north and south polar regions as SHARAD 3-D volumes, imaging the interiors of the north and south polar ice caps known, respectively, as Planum Boreum and Planum Australe. After overcoming a series of challenges revealed during the 3-D processing and analysis, a completed Planum Boreum 3-D volume is currently being used for scientific research. Lessons learned in the northern work fed forward into our 3-D processing and analysis of the Planum Australe 3-D volume, currently under way. We discuss our experiences with these projects and present results and scientific insights stemming from these efforts.

Iron-loaded diatomite (Fe-DE) was developed as the innovative material to enhance anammox granular sludge (AnGS) and mainstream anammox performance. By adding Fe-DE with the Fe:DE ratio of 1:20 and the dosage of 3 g/L, the start-up period of mainstream anammox process was shortened from 29 d to 17 d and its nitrogen removal rate was increased from 0.234 kg N/(m·d) to 0.

This study introduces a new nano catalyst tailored for the eco-friendly synthesis of pyrido[2,3-]pyrimidine via a three-component one-pot reaction involving benzaldehydes, malononitrile, and uracil. To achieve this objective, we anchored copper acetate onto the surface of layered double hydroxides modified with 1,3‑benzenedisulfonyl amide (BDSA) (LDH@PTRMS@BDSA@Cu(NO)), which exhibited remarkable activity and selectivity. The main benefits of this method include high product yield, swift reaction times, straightforward purification, catalyst reusability, and the employment of a mild reaction process.

In the eastern segment of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt (CAOB), there is widespread volcanic magma activity. However, there is still considerable controversy over the formation mechanisms and material sources of these volcanoes. The mantle transition zone (MTZ), as a necessary channel for the upward and downward movement of mantle material and energy exchange may provide crucial constraints on the dynamic mechanisms of volcanic activity.

The paper highlights the realization of 3D-printed parts with complex geometries, such as chess-like pieces, using polyamide 12 (PA12) as polymeric powder via selective laser sintering (SLS). The research activity focuses on the study of the powder printability, the optimization of the printing parameters, and the tomographic evaluation of the printed objects. Morphological analyses were carried out to study the PA12 powder microstructure considering that SLS required specific particle size distribution and shape, able to guarantee a good flowability necessary to take part in a sintering process.

This study investigated the protective effect of arachidonic acid (ARA) against the allograft-induced stress response in Pinctada fucata martensii by characterizing pearl production traits and changes in genes and lipids during postoperative care. Survival and pearl production traits were higher in the ARA treatment group (ARAG) than in the control group (CG). There were 1536 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in CG-1d vs ARAG-1d and 833 DEGs in CG-3d vs ARAG-3d.
