Published: March 2018

Hierarchically porous carbon nanomaterials with well-defined architecture can afford a promising platform for effectively addressing energy and environmental concerns. Herein, a totally green and straightforward synthesis strategy for the fabrication of hierarchically porous carbon nanotubes (HPCNTs) by a simple carbonization treatment without any assistance of soft/hard templates and activation procedures is demonstrated. A high specific surface area of 1419 m g and hierarchical micro-/meso-/macroporosity can be achieved for the HPCNTs. The unique porous architecture enables the HPCNTs serving as excellent electrode/host materials for high-performance supercapacitors and Li-sulfur batteries. The design strategy may pave a new avenue for the rational synthesis of hierarchically porous carbon nanostructures for high-efficient energy storage applications.

One-dimensional (1D) functional nanowires are widely used as nanoscale building blocks for assembling advanced nanodevices due to their unique functionalities. However, previous research has mainly focused on nanowire functionality, while neglecting the structural stability and damage resistance of nanowire assemblies, which are critical for the long-term operation of nanodevices. Biomaterials achieve excellent mechanical stability and damage resistance through sophisticated structural design.

Ru single atoms and nanoparticles immobilized on hierarchically porous carbon for robust dual-pH hydrogen evolution.

School of Mechanical Engineering, Qinghai University, Xining 810016, PR China. Electronic address:

Ensuring Ruthenium-based (Ru) catalysts with high metal utilization is a potential and challenging strategy for designing and constructing high catalytic activity electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Herein, Ruthenium single atoms (SA) and Ruthenium nanoparticles (NPs) are simultaneously anchored on hierarchically porous carbon via the self-templates method for the first time. Benefiting from the synergetic effect of hierarchically porous carbon and the coexistence of Ru SA and Ru NPs, the Ru/C-800 shows attractive HER catalytic activity in acidic and alkaline solutions, with low overpotentials to drive the current density of 10 mA cm and the smallest Tafel slope.

This work developed a novel oxidized hierarchical porous carbon (OHPC) with vesicule-like ultrathin graphitic walls via a method of air oxidation and used as an efficient adsorbent for Congo red (CR) and Malachite green (MG) removal. Results show that the OHPC2 oxidized at 400 °C possesses three-dimensional hierarchical pores with vesicule-like ultrathin graphitic walls. The prepared OHPC2 not only has a large specific surface area of 1020 m g with a high pore volume, but also has abundant oxygen-containing functional groups.

Pore-Controllable Synthesis of Phthalic Acid-Derived Hierarchical Activated Carbon for Dilute CO Capture.

Textile Pollution Controlling Engineering Center of Ministry of Ecology and Environment, College of Environmental Science and Engineering, Donghua University, Shanghai 201620, China.

Carbon capture and storage (CCS) from dilute sources is an important strategy for stabilizing the concentration of atmospheric carbon dioxide and global temperature. However, the adsorption process is extremely challenging due to the sluggish diffusion rate of dilute CO. Herein, -phthalic acid (PTA)-derived hierarchical porous activated carbon (PTA-C) with abundant micro- and mesopores was successfully prepared for dilute CO (2 vol %) capture at ambient conditions.

Hierarchical Porous Microspheres-Assisted Serum Metabolic Profile for the Early Diagnosis and Surveillance of Postmenopausal Osteoporosis.

Anal Chem

December 2024

Department of Chemistry, Institutes of Biomedical Sciences, Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University, Shanghai 200433, China.

With the aging global population, the incidence of osteoporosis (OP) is increasing, putting more individuals at risk. Since postmenopausal osteoporosis (PMOP) often remains asymptomatic until a fracture occurs, making the early clinical diagnosis of PMOP particularly challenging. In this work, the AuNPs-anchored hierarchical porous ZrO microspheres (Au/HPZOMs) is designed to assist laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (LDI-MS) for the requirement of serum metabolic fingerprints of PMOP, postmenopausal osteopenia (PMON), and healthy controls (HC) and realize the early diagnosis and surveillance of PMOP.
