We report a rotaxane based on a simple urea motif that binds Cl selectively as a separated ion pair with H and reports the anion binding event through a fluorescence switch-on response. The host selectively binds Cl over more basic anions, which deprotonate the framework, and less basic anions, which bind more weakly. The mechanical bond also imparts size selectivity to the ditopic host.

Podophyllotoxin (PTOX), produced by Linum album, is a monolignol that participates in plant defense strategies. Our previous study established that methyl jasmonate (MeJA) significantly stimulates PTOX production in L. album cells.

Heparan sulfate (HS) is an anionic polysaccharide generated by all animal cells, but our understanding of its roles in human pluripotent stem cell (hPSC) self-renewal and differentiation is limited. We derived HS-deficient hPSCs by disrupting the EXT1 glycosyltransferase. These EXT1 hPSCs maintain self-renewal and pluripotency under standard culture conditions that contain high levels of basic fibroblast growth factor(bFGF), a requirement for sufficient bFGF signaling in the engineered cells.

Anion Exchange Membranes (AEMs) are promising materials for electrochemical devices, such as fuel cells and electrolyzers. However, the main drawback of AEMs is their low durability in alkaline operating conditions. A possible solution is the use of composite ionomers containing inorganic fillers stable in a basic environment.

The DPE-based chromophores exhibit a large Stokes shift and maintain good fluorescence quantum yields. Remarkably, these chromophores demonstrate reversible colourimetric changes and a fluorometric 'on-off-on' switch in response to pH variations.

Salivary proteins of ticks can inhibit host hemostatic and inflammatory responses during the blood-sucking process of the parasites. A cDNA sequence, Hq021, was identified from a cDNA library of Haemaphysalis qinghaiensis. Hq021 encodes a mature protein containing 182 amino acids with a molecular mass of 20.
