Age-related physiological changes affect various aspects of peripheral intravenous catheter (PIVC) cannulation. However, the characteristics of PIVCs, especially in older patients, have been poorly investigated. In the current cross-sectional observational study, PIVC sizes, PIVC sites, the number of attempts until successful insertion, and the degree of venodilation upon insertion among hospital inpatients aged ≥65 years were investigated, along with measurements of the vessel diameter and depth using ultrasound.

The relevance of the issues studied in this article is due to the need to form an efficiently functioning system of regulating forensic expert activity in general and its individual components, in particular, financial support, taking into account positive foreign experience. The author proposes to introduce separate budget programmes for state specialised institutions of each state agency, which will help to resolve the issues of proper funding and justification of expenditures, and will serve as an anti-corruption factor. Attention is focused on the need to develop a unified methodological approach to calculating the number of forensic examinations.

Purpose: Current technologies to define the zone of acute peripheral nerve injury intraoperatively are limited by surgical experience, time, cumbersome electrodiagnostic equipment, and interpreter reliability. In this pilot study, we evaluated a real-time, label-free optical technique for intraoperative nerve injury imaging. We hypothesize that fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLIm) will detect a difference between the time-resolved fluorescence signatures for acute crush injuries versus uninjured segments of peripheral nerves in sheep.
