Concepts and Types of Senescence in Plants.

Methods Mol Biol

Plant Biology Section, School of Integrative Plant Science, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, USA.

Published: January 2019

Concepts, classification, and the relationship between different types of senescence are discussed in this chapter. Senescence-related terminology frequently used in yeast, animal, and plant systems and senescence processes at cellular, organ, and organismal levels are clarified.

Background: DNA methylation (DNAm) data from human samples has been leveraged to develop "epigenetic clock" algorithms that predict age and other aging-related phenotypes. Some DNAm clocks were trained using DNAm obtained from blood cells, while other clocks were trained using data from diverse tissue/cell types. To assess how DNAm clocks perform across non-blood tissue types, we applied DNAm algorithms to DNAm data generated from 9 different human tissue types.

Statement Of Problem: Comprehensive data are needed on the performance of chemically activated, chairside hard reline materials when used with computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) milled polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) denture bases and conventionally processed bases. This lack of data affects decisions regarding the chairside reline material to be used for improving the fit and retention of relined complete dentures.

Purpose: The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate and compare the shear bond strength (SBS) of 3 chemically activated, chairside hard reline materials on CAD-CAM milled and conventional heat-polymerized PMMA denture bases.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers used single-cell RNA sequencing to examine clock neurons in animal brains, particularly focusing on the DN3s, which are a major type of clock neuron in fruit flies.
  • DN3s were found to be organized into 12 unique clusters with distinct gene expression patterns that set them apart from other clock neurons.
  • The study revealed that certain DN3 subtypes play a significant role in promoting sleep through a specific receptor, suggesting a complex relationship between clock neurons and sleep regulation.

ChatGPT's Attitude, Knowledge, and Clinical Application in Geriatrics Practice and Education: Exploratory Observational Study.

JMIR Form Res

January 2025

Minneapolis VA Health Care System, Minneapolis, MN, United States.

Background: The increasing use of ChatGPT in clinical practice and medical education necessitates the evaluation of its reliability, particularly in geriatrics.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate ChatGPT's trustworthiness in geriatrics through 3 distinct approaches: evaluating ChatGPT's geriatrics attitude, knowledge, and clinical application with 2 vignettes of geriatric syndromes (polypharmacy and falls).

Methods: We used the validated University of California, Los Angeles, geriatrics attitude and knowledge instruments to evaluate ChatGPT's geriatrics attitude and knowledge and compare its performance with that of medical students, residents, and geriatrics fellows from reported results in the literature.

Multi-Omics Research on Angina Pectoris: A Novel Perspective.

Aging Dis

December 2024

Department of Psycho-cardiology, Beijing Anzhen Hospital, Capital Medical University, Beijing, China.

Angina pectoris (AP), a clinical syndrome characterized by paroxysmal chest pain, is caused by insufficient blood supply to the coronary arteries and sudden temporary myocardial ischemia and hypoxia. Long-term AP typically induces other cardiovascular events, including myocardial infarction and heart failure, posing a serious threat to patient safety. However, AP's complex pathological mechanisms and developmental processes introduce significant challenges in the rapid diagnosis and accurate treatment of its different subtypes, including stable angina pectoris (SAP), unstable angina pectoris (UAP), and variant angina pectoris (VAP).
