Ueli Kramer has assembled an eclectic and original set of articles on mechanisms of change in the treatment of borderline personality disorder. They largely focus on patient variables. Several authors make the point that developmentally based variables may have more predictive power than symptom-based variables. Several other articles illustrate that changes occur early in treatments and studying their mechanisms is a promising approach that could have longer term significance. These articles document the variety of research methodologies that can be used to study mechanisms of change and the potential clinical significance of doing this. For showing the field the potential of such research, we owe Dr. Kramer our gratitude.

The intelligent identification of wear particles in ferrography is a critical bottleneck that hampers the development and widespread adoption of ferrography technology. To address challenges such as false detection, missed detection of small wear particles, difficulty in distinguishing overlapping and similar abrasions, and handling complex image backgrounds, this paper proposes an algorithm called TCBGY-Net for detecting wear particles in ferrography images. The proposed TCBGY-Net uses YOLOv5s as the backbone network, which is enhanced with several advanced modules to improve detection performance.

Mangrove forests are increasingly recognized as vital blue carbon ecosystems due to their high carbon sequestration capacity, primarily through the accumulation of soil organic carbon (SOC). Recent research highlights that, in addition to SOC, dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC), particularly in the form of bicarbonate (HCO₃⁻), plays a crucial role in carbon sequestration by being exported from these ecosystems to adjacent coastal waters. This study aims to investigate the previously unexamined mechanisms behind bicarbonate production in mangrove soils.

The dolomite dust-emulsified asphalt composite (DAC) with excellent mechanical properties was successfully prepared using alkali activation. The effects of different alkali concentrations and emulsified asphalt contents on the mechanical properties of the materials were studied. Persuasive appeals frequently prove ineffective or produce unintended outcomes, due to the presence of motivated reasoning. Using the example of electric cars adoption, this research delves into the impact of emotional content, message valence, and the coherence of pre-existing attitudes on biased information evaluation. By conducting a factorial survey (N = 480) and incorporating a computational model of attitude formation, we aim to gain a deeper insight into the cognitive-affective mechanisms driving motivated reasoning.
