Clostridium difficile is a major bacterial cause of post-antibiotic diarrhoea. The epidemiology of C. difficile infections (CDI) has dramatically changed since the early 2000s, with an increasing incidence and severity across Europe. This trend is partly due to the emergence and rapid worldwide spread of the hypervirulent and epidemic PCR ribotype 027. Profiles of patients with CDI have also evolved, with description of community-acquired (CA) infections in patients with no traditional risk factors for CDI. However, recent epidemiological studies indicated that some European countries have successfully controlled the dissemination of the 027 clone whereas other countries recently reported the emergence of other virulent or unusual strains. The aims of this review are to summarize the current European CDI epidemiology and to describe the new virulent C. difficile strains circulating in Europe, as well as other potential emerging strains described elsewhere. Standardized typing methods and surveillance programmes are mandatory for a better understanding and monitoring of CDI in Europe.

Background: Patients post hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) are highly susceptible to infection (CDI). Exposure to antibiotic treatment, chemotherapeutic disruption to bacterial microbiome, immunosuppressive therapy, and prolonged hospitalizations synergistically contribute to the risk of CDI and its recurrence. The purpose of this study is to assess if the adjunctive administration of bezlotoxumab decreases the rate of recurrent CDI in patients post-HSCT.

Background: The potential pairwise connections among high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), striatum-based circuits, and anhedonia in adolescent depression are not clear. This study aimed to explore whether hs-CRP levels in adolescents with depression influence anhedonia via alterations of striatum-based functional connectivity (FC).
Methods: A total of 201 adolescents (92 with depressive episodes with anhedonia (anDE), 58 with DE without anhedonia (non-anDE), and 51 healthy controls (HCs)) underwent resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and completed the anhedonia subscale of the Children's Depression Inventory (CDI).

A diverse and well-functioning gut microbiota normally serves as a protective shield against the invasion of harmful bacteria or the proliferation of opportunistic pathogens. infection (CDI) is predominantly associated with the overuse of antibiotics, resulting in a significant alteration in the gut's microbial balance. Unfortunately, the lack of global standardization does not allow for the identification of a set of biomarkers associated with the onset and progression of this disease.

is an urgent public health threat that affects approximately half a million patients annually in the United States. Despite concerted efforts aimed at the prevention of infection (CDI), it remains a leading cause of healthcare-associated infections. CDI is associated with significant clinical, social, and economic burdens.

: Sleep disturbances are common among children with fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD) and are often accompanied by emotional and behavioral challenges. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between sleep problems, anxiety, and depressive symptoms in children with FASD. : The study included 90 children aged 7 to 16 years diagnosed with FASD, who were primarily in foster or adoptive care.
