Contrasting two versions of the 4-cup 2-item disjunctive syllogism task in great apes.

Chimpanzees excel at inference tasks which require that they search for a single food item from partial information. Yet, when presented with 2-item tasks which test the same inference operation, chimpanzees show a consistent breakdown in performance. Here we test a diverse zoo-housed cohort (n = 24) comprising all 4 great ape species under the classic 4-cup 2-item task, previously administered to children and chimpanzees, and a modified task administered to baboons.

To address the problems of the labeling curved surfaces vegetable with long label, such as the label wrinkled and the easy detachment, a cam-elliptical gear combined labeling mechanism with an improved hypocycloid trajectory is proposed. Provide the process of the mechanism, and establish a kinematic model of the mechanism. In order to improve the motion performances of the cam-elliptical gear combined labeling mechanism and avoid labels damage, the NSGA-II algorithm is used to optimize the parameters of the mechanism, resulting in 80 sets of Pareto solutions.

This study investigated the effect of a theranostic-guided UV-A light corneal photo-reshaping technique on corneal elevation and wavefront aberration (WA) in human donor eyes. A specialized platform, combining UV-A light with corneal iontophoresis for controlled, patterned, riboflavin delivery, was used for both distribution assessment and concentration-driven photopolymerization of corneal proteins. In all cases, a consistent riboflavin concentration gradient, with lower levels in the central prepupillary zone, was recorded.

The multisensory control of sequential actions.

Exp Brain Res

Many motor tasks are comprised of sequentially linked action phases, as when reaching for, lifting, transporting, and replacing a cup of coffee. During such tasks, discrete visual, auditory and/or haptic feedback are typically associated with mechanical events at the completion of each action phase, as when breaking and subsequently making contact between the cup and the table. An emerging concept is that important sensorimotor control operations, that affect subsequent action phases, are centred on these discrete multisensory events.
