Background: Subacute rumen acidosis (SARA) is a common metabolic disorder in ruminants that disrupts the rumen microbiome and animal health, but diagnosis is challenging due to subtle symptoms and invasive testing requirements. This study explores the potential of the buccal (oral) microbiome as a diagnostic indicator for SARA, hypothesizing an interaction with the rumen microbiome.
Results: The study involved 47 dairy goats, including 11 on a control diet and 36 on high-concentrate diets with increasing rumen-degradable starch.

Background And Purpose: Anatomical imaging is a hallmark for visualizing chronic and acute infarcts but provides incomplete information on stroke risk. Respiratory hypercapnic gas challenges show promise for non-invasively assessing hemodynamic function and mapping cerebrovascular reserve capacity, an indicator of how near parenchyma is to exhausting autoregulatory capacity. However, limited safety information exists for this method in high-risk patients with flow-limiting stenosis.

This study provides a comprehensive overview of sinusitis, detailing its pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, diagnostic criteria, and management strategies. Sinusitis, characterized by inflammation of the paranasal sinuses, can be acute, subacute, recurrent, or chronic, with distinct clinical presentations and treatment approaches. Diagnosis relies on clinical evaluation, imaging studies, and occasionally nasal endoscopy.

Introduction: Atheroembolic kidney disease (AEKD) is an under-recognized cause of kidney failure, secondary to the obstruction of the renal artery and/or its branches due to the rupture of an unstable atherosclerotic plaque in patients treated with surgical and invasive cardiovascular procedures. The embolization of cholesterol crystals in the renal artery activates the complement and triggers an inflammatory reaction. Atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS) is a thrombotic microangiopathy caused by the hyperactivation of the alternative complement pathway, leading to a prothrombotic and proinflammatory state on the endothelial surface.

Foix-Alajouanine syndrome is an extremely rare yet important differential diagnosis for subacute lower limb weakness in middle-aged to elderly adults. Current understanding of the pathophysiology of this disease, along with recent publications on successful endovascular interventions, has shifted the perspective and clinical approach for its management. Nonetheless, neurosurgical pathways for clinical treatment are still preferred over endovascular embolization.
