Activation of the endocannabinoid system (ECS) elicits negative effects on the reproductive system in mammals. Omega-3 (n-3) fatty acid (FA) supplementation lowers ECS activation and has anti-inflammatory effects. Thus, we hypothesized that supplementing cows with n-3 FA will downregulate components of the ECS and immune system in preovulatory follicles and in the endometrium.

L-Carnitine is widely recognized for its involvement in lipid metabolism, but its effects on muscle quality and gut health in carp have not been well studied. The research aimed to investigate how L-carnitine influences muscle quality and intestinal health in high-fat-fed carp. The study was separated into four groups that received either the standard diet, a high-fat diet (HFD), or a HFD supplemented with 500 mg/kg L-carnitine (LLC), or a HFD supplemented with 1000 mg/kg L-carnitine (HLC) for 56 days.

Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) including omega-3 and omega-6 are obtained from diet and can be measured objectively in plasma or red blood cells (RBCs) membrane biomarkers, representing different dietary exposure windows. In vivo conversion of omega-3 and omega-6 PUFAs from short- to long-chain counterparts occurs via a shared metabolic pathway involving fatty acid desaturases and elongase. This analysis leveraged genome-wide association study (GWAS) summary statistics for RBC and plasma PUFAs, along with expression quantitative trait loci (eQTL) to estimate tissue-specific genetically predicted gene expression effects for delta-5 desaturase (FADS1), delta-6 desaturase (FADS2), and elongase (ELOVL2) on changes in RBC and plasma biomarkers.

Norvaline is a nonproteinogenic amino acid and an important food ingredient supplement for healthy food. In this study, dl-norvaline administration reduced body weight by more than 40% and improved glucose metabolism and energy metabolism in obese mice induced by a high-fat diet (HFD). Combination analysis of microbiome and metabolomics showed that dl-norvaline supplementation regulated gut bacteria structure, such as increasing beneficial bacteria (, , , , , , , and ) and decreasing harmful bacteria (, , , , , and ) and modulated the metabolites involved in arachidonic acid metabolism, thus further promoting short-chain fatty acid production and improving gut barrier, thereby inflammatory responses and oxidative stress were ameliorated.
