The concept of using natural orifices to reduce the complications of surgery, Natural Orifices Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery, has also been applied to therapeutic endoscopy. Endoscopic submucosal surgery (ESS) provides more treatment options for various gastrointestinal diseases than traditional therapeutic endoscopy by using the submucosal layer as a working space. ESS has been performed in various fields ranging from transluminal peritoneoscopy to peroral endoscopic myotomy. With further advances in technology, ESS will be increasingly useful for diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal diseases.

Gastric duplication cysts with mixed hemangioma treated by endoscopic submucosal dissection: A case report and literature review.

Pathol Res Pract

January 2025

Department of Gastroenterology, The Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University, Qingdao University, Qingdao, Shandong 262000, PR China. Electronic address:

Gastric duplication cysts (GDCs) are rare cystic neoplasms that are often difficult to distinguish from other entities. We present a case of a gastric duplication cyst in a 17-year-old female, presenting with discomfort in the upper abdomen.

Excess cement and peri-implant disease: A cross-sectional clinical endoscopic study.

J Periodontol

January 2025

Department of Biomedical and Neuromotor Sciences, School of Dentistry - Division of Periodontology and Implantology, Alma Mater Studiorum - University of Bologna, Bologna, Italy.

Background: Crown cementation is a common technique for implant-supported prosthodontics. However, for possible slipping of the cement below the mucosal margin, its thorough removal poses some issues. The objective of this study was to evaluate the presence of submucosal cement residues in patients with peri-implant disease by endoscopic visualization and to investigate the potential correlation between the pathological scenario and the spatial position of cement residues.

Objective: To investigate the role of endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) in the diagnosis and treatment of upper gastrointestinal bleeding of unknown origin in liver cirrhosis, focusing on patients with recurrent treatment of esophageal and gastric varices who failed to identify the bleeding site under direct endoscopy.

Background: Esophagogastric variceal bleeding is one of the severe complications of decompensated liver cirrhosis, and serial endoscopic therapy can improve the long-term quality of life of patients. Most acute bleeding can be detected under direct endoscopy with thrombus or active bleeding, but there are still some patients with recurrent bleeding after repeated treatments, and it is difficult to find the bleeding site, especially in gastric variceal bleeding.

Objective: The objective of this study is to investigate the effect after the application of Failure Model and Effect Analysis (FMEA) in nursing care for patients who have undergone endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD).

Methods: A cohort of 40 patients who underwent ESD between July and September 2023 were selected as the control group, while 42 patients who underwent ESD between October 2023 and June 2024 after implementing FMEA were selected as the observation group. A multidisciplinary team was established based on the FMEA model to analyze and create a nursing flowchart.
