Two different nematode species were recovered from pomegranate decaying fruit in two localities in Southern Italy: the mycetophagus nematode and a bacterial feeder nematode belonging to the Panagrolaimidae (Rhabditida) family. Morphometrics of the Italian population of closely resemble that of the type population, whereas some differences were found when compared with another population from Iran. Molecular characterization of the Italian using the 18S rRNA gene, D2-D3 expansion domains of the 28S rDNA, the ITS region, and the partial mitochondrial COI were carried out. Sequences of the 18S rRNA gene, the D2-D3 domains, and the ITS were analyzed using several methods for inferring phylogeny to reconstruct the relationships among and species. The bacterial feeder sp. was characterized at the molecular level only. The D2-D3 expansion domains and ITS sequences of this Italian panagrolaimid were determined. The D2-D3 sequences of the Italian panagrolaimid showed 99% similarity with the corresponding sequence of sp. associated with . This is the first report on the tritrophic association of and Rhabditida that uses both insects and pomegranate fruit as hosts.

The purpose of this study was to characterize unconventional cold-pressed seed oils (rosehip, strawberry, blackcurrant, carrot, plum, pomegranate, radish, and raspberry) as novel alternative edible oil source. A chemical characterization of different lipid components (total fatty acid composition, triacylglycerols, and vitamin E) and volatiles responsible for the particular aroma of these oils was reported. All the oils showed a content of unsaturated fatty acids, mainly oleic, linoleic, and α-linolenic acid, that potentially contribute to the prevention of cardiovascular diseases, in the range of 80%-90%.

Key odorants of juices of pomegranate fruits of Hicaz variety obtained from different juice production stages (fresh: FrPJ, pasteurized: PPJ, filtered: FiPJ, and concentrated: CPJ) were examined. Spinal cord injury (SCI) represents a severe type of central nervous system damage, with no effective treatment currently available, partly due to neuronal ferroptosis and subsequent neuroinflammation. Punicalagin, an anti-inflammatory compound extracted from pomegranate peel, has exhibited therapeutic potential for inflammatory diseases. In this study, we present evidence that punicalagin facilitates the recovery of neurological function following SCI by mitigating neuronal ferroptosis.

Objectives: The concept of beauty from within is a growing trend in the market and people now look for oral supplements that can enhance the well-being of skin from within. Within this principle, a proprietary pomegranate extract (Grantria), standardized to ellagic acid, punicic acid and punicalagin, was developed using ADOP (Advanced Oil-Powder) technology and was clinically evaluated for its efficacy and safety in healthy adults.
Methods: This evaluation was carried out as a randomized, placebo-controlled clinical study for 60 days at a daily dose of 300 mg.
