A spectroscopic examination of six galactonoamidines with inhibition constants and efficacy in the low nanomolar concentration range (K = 6-11 nM, IC = 12-36 nM) suggested only two of them as putative transition state analogs for the hydrolysis of β-galactosides by β-galactosidase (A. oryzae). A rationale for the experimental results was elaborated using docking and molecular dynamics studies. An analysis of the combined observations reveals several common factors of the compounds suggested as transition state analogs (TSAs): the putative TSAs have a similar orientation in the active site; show conserved positioning of the glycon; display a large number of H-bond interactions toward the catalytically active amino acid residues via their glycon; and exhibit hydrophobic interactions at the outer rim of the active site with small changes of the position and orientation of their respective aglycons.

Prussian blue analogues (PBAs) show great promise as cathode candidates for aqueous zinc-ion batteries thanks to their high operating voltage, open-framework structure, and low cost. However, suffering from numerous vacancies and crystal water, the electrochemical performance of PBAs remains unsatisfactory, with limited capacity and poor cycle life. Here, a simple coprecipitation method is shown to synthesize well-crystallized cobalt hexacyanoferrate (CoHCF) with a small amount of water and high specific surface area.

Purpose Of Review: To review the most current recommendations regarding assessment and treatment of asymptomatic hypertension treatment in the emergency department (ED) and to provide guidance for prescribing oral antihypertensive therapy for ED providers.
Recent Findings: There are varying management strategies for the treatment of asymptomatic hypertension in the ED likely due to a lack of direct guidelines for treatment. There is an increasing body of evidence for the safety of initiating therapy to treat chronic asymptomatic hypertension in the ED.

Context: This study aims to reveal the reaction mechanisms of H and O on the NiO(100) and Ce-doped NiO(100) surfaces using the density functional theory (DFT) combined with the on-site Coulomb correction (DFT + U) method. It was found that H and O react favorably on the reduced surfaces of both materials. However, after the oxygen vacancy is filled, the activation energy for the reaction between H₂ and lattice oxygen increases.

Materials exhibiting both metallic and semiconducting states, including two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), have numerous applications. We therefore investigate the effects of axial and shear strains on the phase energetics of pristine and striped TMDs using density functional theory and classical molecular dynamics simulations. We demonstrate that control of the phase distribution can be achieved by the integration of strain engineering and Kirigami techniques.

The [4+2] Diels-Alder cycloaddition reaction between 2,5-DMF (1) and ethylene derivatives (2a-h) activated by electron-withdrawing groups has been studied at the density functional theory levels using a panoply of tools to unravel the reaction mechanisms. From the analysis of the reactivity indices, 2a-h behave as electrophiles while 1 as nucleophile, and the activation of the double bond of ethylene increases its electrophilicity, which is accompanied by an enhancement of the polarity of the reaction. The activation Gibbs free energy decreases linearly as a function of this increase of polarity, as estimated by the electrophilicity difference between the reactants.
