In spite of the progress in the cyclodextrins chemistry, the synthesis of monodisperse derivatives with a defined degree of substitution is still a challenge. In this work we present a novel dendritic material produced by combining βCD and second generation poly(ester) dendrons. The selective attachment of dendrons in the seven positions of the βCD-primary face was performed through a CuAAC click reaction, which along with a very simple work-up, allowed obtaining the monodisperse material in very high yields. The product showed a great aqueous solubility and an in vitro non-toxic profile. The enhanced complexation potential of the product was evidenced through the formation of an inclusion complex with albendazole, which presented a K = 29636.17 M. In this system, albendazole was 45 times more water-soluble in comparison to the complex albendazole-native βCD. All these features make the dendritic material very attractive for further applications in the formulation and drug delivery fields.

The propensity of zinc (Zn) to form irregular electrodeposits at liquid-solid interfaces emerges as a fundamental barrier to high-energy, rechargeable batteries that use zinc anodes. So far, tremendous efforts are devoted to tailoring interfaces, while atomic-scale reaction mechanisms and the related nanoscale strain at the electrochemical interface receive less attention. Here, the underlying atomic-scale reaction mechanisms and the associated nanoscale strain at the electrochemical alloy interface are investigate, using gold-zinc alloy protective layer as a model system.

Lithium (Li) metal anodes (LMAs), which show a great potential in constructing high-specific-energy-density Li metal batteries (LMBs), have abstracted wide research interest. However, the generation of Li dendrites and the repeated change of volume upon Li plating/stripping severely block the practical commercialization of LMBs. Herein, the functional carbon fibers (CFs) decorated with ZnO embedded carbon cage (ZnO@C-d-CFs) were fabricated successfully by a two-step route including the in-situ growth of Zn-based metal organic frameworks (MOFs) and subsequent carbonization process, which enriched the lithiophilic sites of CFs host and improved Li+ kinetics of Li+ plating/stripping.

Lithium metal, renowned for its ultra-high theoretical specific capacity and low electrochemical potential, is a promising anode material for high-energy-density batteries. However, its commercialization is impeded by issues such as uncontrolled Li dendrite growth and volumetric expansion during cycling. Herein, we report the synthesis of a nitrogen- and SiN-enriched porous based biochar derived from antibiotic mycelial residues rich in soybean cellulose, which serves as a three-dimensional skeleton for Li metal anodes.

Uncontrolled zinc dendrite growth and adverse side reactions at the Zn anode interface severely limit its practical application. Based on theoretical calculations, this study in situ constructs a functional interface (ICFI Zn) on the Zn anode surface, consisting of a surface-textured structure and a zinc-philic protective layer. Benefiting from the synergistic effect of ion regulation and atomic anchoring of this functional interface, the ICFI Zn anode achieves homogenised regulation of ion fluxes, facilitates ion transport kinetics, effectively suppresses side reactions and guides the deposition of dendrite-free Zn.

Purpose: Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a rare hereditary disorder of the connective tissue. Despite recent attention to corneal abnormalities in OI, understanding remains limited. This study aimed to comprehensively evaluate corneal changes in a large sample of OI patients compared to controls using in vivo confocal microscopy (IVCM).
