Objective: To investigate the clinical efficacy of excision of necrotic and infected tissues combined with induced membrane and external fixator technique to treat chronic osteomyelitis in tibia after fracture operation.

Methods: From June 2011 to June 2014, a total of 13 patients with tibia osteomyelitis were treated with excision of necrotic and infected tissues and external fixator technique in the first stage. There were 8 males and 5 females, ranging in age from 16 to 67 years old with an average of (37.3±14.3) years old. Within 6 to 8 weeks the induced membrane was formed and the induced membrane technique was applied to promote new bone forming in the second stage.

Results: Thirteen patients had no reinfection and achieved complete bone healing after 24 to 52 months follow-up. All the patients had satisfactory function.

Conclusions: Excision of necrotic and infected tissues combined with induced membrane and external fixator technique to treat chronic osteomyelitis in tibia after fracture operation can provide satisfactory results.

Cryopreservation of bull sperm, crucial for breeding and assisted reproduction, often reduces sperm quality due to oxidative stress. This study examines how oxidative stress during cryopreservation affects peroxiredoxin 5 (PRDX5) and peroxiredoxin 6 (PRDX6) proteins, leading to their translocation and oligomerization in bull sperm. Increased reactive oxygen species (ROS) and nitric oxide (NO) levels were linked to reduced mitochondrial potential, higher DNA fragmentation, and increased membrane fluidity, prompting PRDX5 to move intracellularly and PRDX6 to the cell membrane.

Background: Skeletal muscle injury caused by excessive exercise is one of the most commonly seen clinical diseases. It is indispensable to explore drugs for treating and relieving skeletal muscle injury. Gallic acid (GA) is a polyphenolic extract that has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant biological activities.

Blood vessel formation relies on biochemical and mechanical signals, particularly during sprouting angiogenesis when endothelial tip cells (TCs) guide sprouting through filopodia formation. The contribution of BMP receptors in defining tip-cell characteristics is poorly understood. Our study combines genetic, biochemical, and molecular methods together with 3D traction force microscopy, which reveals an essential role of BMPR2 for actin-driven filopodia formation and mechanical properties of endothelial cells (ECs).

GABA receptors mediate prolonged inhibition in the brain and are important for keeping neuronal excitation and inhibition in a healthy balance. However, under excitotoxic/ischemic conditions, GABA receptors are downregulated by dysregulated endocytic trafficking and can no longer counteract the severely enhanced excitation, eventually triggering neuronal death. Recently, we developed interfering peptides targeting protein-protein interactions involved in downregulating the receptors.

Hippocampal dendritic spines store-operated calcium entry and endoplasmic reticulum content is dynamic microtubule dependent.

One of the mechanisms of calcium signalling in neurons is store-operated calcium entry (SOCE), which is activated when the calcium concentration in the smooth endoplasmic reticulum (ER) decreases and its protein-calcium sensor STIM (stromal interacting molecule) relocate to the endoplasmic reticulum and plasma membrane junctions, forms clusters and induces calcium entry. In electrically non-excitable cells, STIM1 is coupled with the positive end of a tubulin microtubule through interaction with EB1 (end-binding) protein, which controls its oligomerization, SOCE and participates in ER movement. STIM2 homologue, which is specific for mature hippocampal dendritic spines, is known to interact with EB3 protein, however, not much is known about the role of this interaction in STIM2 clustering or ER trafficking in neurons.
