Chemical manufacturing is often done at large facilities that require a sizable capital investment and then produce key compounds for a finite period. We present an approach to the manufacturing of fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals in a self-contained plastic reactionware device. The device was designed and constructed by using a chemical to computer-automated design (ChemCAD) approach that enables the translation of traditional bench-scale synthesis into a platform-independent digital code. This in turn guides production of a three-dimensional printed device that encloses the entire synthetic route internally via simple operations. We demonstrate the approach for the γ-aminobutyric acid receptor agonist, (±)-baclofen, establishing a concept that paves the way for the local manufacture of drugs outside of specialist facilities.

Addressing the high cost and long cycle associated with the multistep digital restoration process involving 3D printing technology, we proposed the 3D pen as an innovative strategy for rapid bone repair. Capitalizing on the low melting point characteristic of polycaprolactone (PCL), we introduced, for the first time, the novel concept of directly constructing scaffolds at bone defect sites using 3D pens. In this in vitro study, we meticulously evaluated both the mechanical and biological properties of 3D pen-printed PCL scaffolds with six distinct textures: unidirectional (UNI) (0°, 45°, 90°), bidirectional (BID) (-45°/45°, 0°/90°), and concentric (CON).

Objectives: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease with heterogeneous clinical manifestations which significantly impacts the daily lives of patients. Herein, we aimed to (i) investigate patients' perspectives on and experience with SLE; (ii) identify meaningful aspects of health (MAHs) and concepts of interest (COIs) in SLE that could be evaluated using digital clinical measures (DCMs); and (iii) identify target DCMs for their assessment.
Methods: A mixed-methods, multistep approach was deployed for (i) exploring patients' experience with SLE through a social media listening study and focused group discussions with patients; (ii) mapping patients' experiences to define MAHs and identify COIs measurable using DCMs; (iii) selecting DCMs for the target COIs; and (iv) identifying types of wearable sensors for measuring COIs in the patients.

Background: With the introduction of the Digital Healthcare Act (DVG) at the end of 2019, digital health applications (DiGA) were included in the statutory health insurance in Germany. DiGA are digital medical products whose primary function is based on digital technologies. In the definition of the approval process, the term "therapeutic benefit", which is crucial to the evaluation of pharmaceuticals, was expanded to include the broader concept of "positive healthcare effect" ("pVE").

Droplet-based digital PCR has emerged as a powerful platform for nucleic acid-based detection. However, the formation of droplet compartments and the subsequent amplification process in oil present significant drawbacks: instability under harsh thermal conditions, high background fluorescent noise inside droplets, and major difficulty in supporting multistep assays. Alternatively, droplets made of a hydrogel, or other advanced materials, have been adopted and demonstrate promising improvement over conventional droplet-based platforms.

By linking the real and imaginary parts of the multi-wavelength complex function via the KK relation, the method captures object light waves with the full effective bandwidth from a single interferogram and reference wave intensity. This method greatly improves spectral utilization and measurement accuracy in multi-wavelength interference.
