Recent findings show that experience with a syntactic structure has long-term consequences for how that structure will be processed in the future, which suggests that linguistic representations are not static entities that can be probed reliably without alteration. Thus, leveraging the effect of previous exposure to a syntactic structure appears to be an inappropriate method for studying invariant properties of language.

Relation extraction independently verifies all entity pairs in a sentence to identify predefined relationships between named entities. Because these entity pairs share the same contextual features of a sentence, they lead to a complicated semantic structure. To distinguish semantic expressions between relation instances, manually designed rules or elaborate deep architectures are usually applied to learn task-relevant representations.

The human capacity for language cannot be fully understood without appreciation of its ability to adapt to startling diversity. Narrow sampling therefore undermines the psycholinguistic enterprise. Concerns regarding a lack of sample diversity in psycholinguistics are increasingly being raised, but large-scale data on the state of the field remain absent.

Before they even talk, infants become sensitive to the speech sounds of their native language and recognize the auditory form of an increasing number of words. Traditionally, these early perceptual changes are attributed to an emerging knowledge of linguistic categories such as phonemes or words. However, there is growing skepticism surrounding this interpretation due to limited evidence of category knowledge in infants.

The discipline of ecology and evolutionary biology (EEB) has long grappled with issues of inclusivity and representation, particularly for individuals with systematically excluded and marginalized backgrounds or identities. For example, significant representation disparities still persist that disproportionately affect women and gender minorities; Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC); individuals with disabilities; and people who are LGBTQIA+. Recent calls for action have urged the EEB community to directly address issues of representation, inclusion, justice, and equity.

Emotions are associated with subjective emotion-specific bodily sensations. Here, we utilized this relationship and computational linguistic methods to map a representation of emotions in ancient texts. We analyzed Neo-Assyrian texts from 934-612 BCE to discern consistent relationships between linguistic expressions related to both emotions and bodily sensations.
