Background/aims: We aim to compare the remission of erosive esophagitis (EE) among individuals with different phenotypes based on their metabolic health and obesity status and investigate the impact of changes in metabolic health on the EE remission.
Methods: Asymptomatic adults (n = 16 845) with EE at baseline, who underwent follow-up esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) were categorized into 4 groups as follows: metabolically healthy (MH) nonobese, metabolically unhealthy (MU) nonobese, MH obese, and MU obese. EE was defined as grade A or higher mucosal breaks observed using esophagogastroduodenoscopy.

Canine pyometra is a common and potentially life-threatening reproductive disorder in intact female dogs. This prospective study aimed to (1) investigate the bacterial spectrum and antimicrobial susceptibilities of bacterial isolates from the uterus and urine of dogs with pyometra, (2) assess the clonal relatedness and virulence factors of Escherichia coli isolates from individual dogs, and (3) determine the occurrence of concurrent and persistent bacteriuria or clinical urinary tract infections. Bacterial isolates from 208 uterine and 203 urine specimens collected during pyometra surgery were analyzed.

Pulmonary arteriovenous malformations (PAVMs) cause cerebral abscess and ischemic stroke due to paradoxical emboli, risks that are increasingly recognized. We report the evolving placement of thoracic surgery in multi-disciplinary team management of PAVMs that were sporadic or associated with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia. From 1983 to 2006, all patients receiving elective treatment had embolization.

Diagnosis involves confirming the persistence of antiphospholipid antibodies in symptomatic patients, using validated classification criteria as a guide. The likelihood of obtaining false-positive or false-negative test results in certain settings, and the lack of standardisation between laboratory methods, are important considerations.

Apexification is a crucial procedure for achieving apical healing in non-vital teeth with open apices. Traditionally, calcium hydroxide has been used for this purpose, but it has significant drawbacks, including prolonged treatment duration, increased risk of root fracture, and the potential for porous barrier formation. Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) has emerged as a superior alternative due to its biocompatibility, faster setting time, and better sealing properties.
