We have studied a total of 12,009 school children (age range 6 to 14 years) in order to determine the incidence of thoracic innocent murmurs. 6,816 were male and 5,193 female. A initial clinical evaluation was carried out in the school and the second examination was performed in our hospital. Global incidence of innocent murmurs was 9.57% with a female/male ratio of 1.73. We divided the innocent murmurs according with Fishleder's method: mesocardial systolic murmur (62%), pulmonary systolic murmur (26%), protosystolic apical murmur (7%), "whooping" murmur (5%). Afterwards, children with murmurs were divided in two groups of age and anthropometric characteristics observing a significative increment in the incidence of mesocardial systolic murmur in children which ranged ages from 6 to 10 years (74%) and of the pulmonary systolic murmur in the group of 10 to 14 years (40%).

Background: Purring in cats can interfere with cardiac auscultation. If the produced noise is loud enough, purring makes it impossible to perform a meaningful auscultation as it is much louder than heart sounds and murmurs. Our study introduced and tested a new, simple, fear-free, cat-friendly method to stop purring during auscultation.

Without timely intervention, this condition can lead to disastrous outcomes. The advent of transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) has gained popularity, emerging as an effective alternative for managing severe aortic stenosis (AS) in high-risk patients experiencing deterioration of previously implanted bioprosthetic surgical aortic valves (SAV), which introduces complex challenges such as device compatibility and anatomical considerations.

Transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER) is approved for patients with symptomatic severe mitral regurgitation (MR) who are deemed inoperable or at high surgical risk with life expectancy of more than 1 year, but has also been used off-label in patients with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM) for symptomatic relief who are not candidates for septal reduction therapy. An 83-year-old woman with decompensated heart failure was found to have HOCM with systolic anterior motion of the mitral valve and a large P2 flail segment with ruptured cords. TEER was performed resulting in mild MR and resolution of the prior left ventricular outflow tract gradient.

A 79-year-old woman presented with a systolic murmur and dyspnea on exertion. Transthoracic echocardiography and multidetector-row computed tomography revealed a giant aneurysm in an abnormal vessel known as Vieussens' arterial ring (VAR). A pulmonary artery VAR fistula was also observed.
