Salivary proteomic analysis in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and periodontitis.

Clin Oral Investig

January 2025

Institute of Science and Technology, Division of Periodontics, São Paulo State University (Unesp), Av. Eng. Francisco José Longo, 777, São José dos Campos, São Paulo, 12245-000, Brazil.

Objective: This study aimed to compare the salivary protein profile in individuals with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DM2) and periodontitis and their respective controls.

Methods: Eighty participants were included in the study. The four groups were formed by individuals with DM2 and periodontitis (DM2 + P, n = 20), DM2 without periodontitis (DM2, n = 20), periodontitis without DM2 (P, n = 20) and individuals without periodontitis and without DM2 (H, n = 20).

Gonadotroph neuroendocrine pituitary tumors are among the most common intracranial neoplasms. A notable proportion of these tumors is characterized by invasive growth which hampers the treatment results and worsens prognoses of patients. Increased hsa-miR-184 expression was observed in invasive as compared to non-invasive gonadotroph tumors.

Background:  Tuberculosis (TB) remains a leading cause of mortality in low-resource settings and poses a diagnostic challenge in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-negative populations because of limitations in traditional diagnostic methods such as sputum smear microscopy (SSM) and sputum Xpert Ultra. There is a lack of effective, non-invasive diagnostic options for TB diagnosis in HIV-negative populations. This scoping review explores the potential of urinary lipoarabinomannan (ULAM) as a point-of-care diagnostic tool for Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) in HIV-negative individuals.

Background: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) measurement parameters-the standard noninvasive diagnostic method for rotator cuff tears (RCTs)-have been used to compare groups with and without RCTs. Arthroscopy is used in definitive diagnosis and treatment.

Purposes: To evaluate the association between RCT and shoulder angles and distances on MRI in patients with and without arthroscopically validated RCT and to determine whether the degree of rotator cuff fatty degeneration affects the MRI measurements.

Background: Aortic coarctation (CoA) is a congenital anomaly leading to upper-body hypertension and lower-body hypotension. Despite surgical or interventional treatment, arterial hypertension may develop and contribute to morbidity and mortality. Conventional blood pressure (BP) measurement methods lack precision for individual diagnoses and therapeutic decisions.
