Nanostructured poly(m-aminophenol) (PmAP) coated freestanding carbon nanofiber (CNF) mats were fabricated through simple in situ rapid-mixing polymerization of m-aminophenol in the presence of a CNF mat for flexible solid-state supercapacitors. The surface compositions, morphology and pore structure of the hybrid mats were characterized by using various techniques, e.g., FTIR, Raman, XRD, FE-SEM, TEM, and N absorption. The results show that the PmAP nanoparticles were homogeneously deposited on CNF surfaces and formed a thin flexible hybrid mat, which were directly used to made electrodes for electrochemical analysis without using any binders or conductive additives. The electrochemical performances of the hybrid mats were easily tailored by varying the PmAP loading on a hybrid electrode. The PmAP/CNF-10 hybrid electrode with a relatively low PmAP loading (> 42 wt%) showed a high specific capacitance of 325.8 F g and a volumetric capacitance of 273.6 F cm at a current density of 0.5 A g, together with a specific capacitance retention of 196.2 F g at 20 A g. The PmAP/CNF-10 hybrid electrode showed good cycling stability with 88.2% capacitance retention after 5000 cycles. A maximum energy density of 45.2 Wh kg and power density of 20.4 kW kg were achieved for the PmAP/CNF-10 hybrid electrode. This facile and cost-effective synthesis of a flexible binder-free PmAP/CNF hybrid mat with excellent capacitive performances encourages its possible commercial exploitation.

Gradient porous carbon has become a potential electrode material for energy storage devices, including the aqueous zinc-ion hybrid capacitor (ZIHC). Compared with the sufficient studies on the fabrication of ZIHCs with high electrochemical performance, there is still lack of in-depth understanding of the underlying mechanisms of gradient porous structure for energy storage, especially the synergistic effect of ultramicropores (<1 nm) and micropores (1-2 nm). Here, we report a design principle for the gradient porous carbon structure used for ZIHC based on the data-mining machine learning (ML) method.

Intrinsic low conductivity, poor structural stability, and narrow interlayer spacing limit the development of MnO in sodium-ion (Na) supercapacitors. This work constructs the hollow cubic Mn-PBA precursor through an ion-exchange process to in situ obtain a hollow cubic H-Ni-MnO composite with Ni doping and oxygen vacancies (O) via a self-oxidation strategy. Experiments and theoretical calculations show that the hollow nanostructure and the expanding interlayer spacing induced by Ni doping are beneficial for exposing more reactive sites, synergistically manipulating the Na transport pathways.

A microbial fuel cell (MFC) is a modern, environmentally friendly, and cost-effective energy conversion technology that utilizes renewable organic waste as fuel, converting stored chemical energy into usable bioelectricity in the presence of a biocatalyst. Despite advancements in MFC technology, several challenges remain in optimizing power production efficiency, particularly regarding anode materials and modifications. In this study, low-cost biosynthesized iron oxide nanoparticles (FeO NPs) were coated with a polyaniline (PANI) conducting matrix to synthesize hybrid FeO/PANI binary nanocomposites (NCs) as modified MFC anodes via an in-situ polymerization process.

Accurate and sensitive detection of Pax-5a gene is the basis of early diagnosis and prediction of acute leukemia. This research aims to develop a universal dual-mode sensing method enables ultrasensitive gene detection based on smart control of DNA amplification by nucleic acid beacons e to form programmed dendrimer. The Pax-5a target gene triggers the opening of smart gate hairpin probe (Hp), exposing the stem sequence as the primer to bind with padlock probe for rolling circle amplification (RCA).

Transition metal sulfides (TMSs) have significant potential in energy storage applications due to their high theoretical capacity and diverse reaction mechanisms. However, performance limitations in supercapacitors arise from various intrinsic defects, including low active material utilization and poor cycling stability caused by unstable electrical conductivity. To address these issues, this paper incorporates selenium atoms into sulfides, aiming to leverage selenium's high conductivity to enhance the electroactivity of transition metal sulfides.
