Positively charged polyhexamethylene guanidine hydrochloride-stabilized silver nanoparticles (PHMG-AgNPs) were prepared and applied as a colorimetric probe for single-step determination of pyrophosphate and sulfate. The approach is based on the nanoparticles aggregation leading to change in their absorption spectra and color of the solution. Due to both electrostatic and steric stabilization these nanoparticles show decreased sensitivity relatively to many common anions, which allows for simple and rapid direct single-step determination of pyrophosphate and sulfate. Effects of different factors (time of interaction, pH, concentrations of anions and the nanoparticles) on aggregation of PHMG-AgNPs and analytical performance of the procedure were investigated. The method allows for the determination of pyrophosphate and sulfate in the range of 0.16-2μgmL and 20-80μgmL with RSD of 2-5%, respectively. The analysis can be performed using either spectrophotometry or naked-eye detection. Practical application of the method was shown by the example of pyrophosphate determination in baking powder sample.

Atherosclerosis is the main pathogenic factor of various cardiovascular diseases. During the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis, macrophages play a major role, mainly by secreting pro-inflammatory cytokines and taking in lipids to form foam cells. Thiamine pyrophosphate (TPP) is an antagonist of the P2Y6 receptor, which is overexpressed on macrophages during atherosclerosis and facilitates the lipid phagocytosis of macrophages.

Background: Neutropenia is more common in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and is a major cause of life-threatening infections. The increased apoptosis of neutrophils is likely to be an essential cause of neutropenia in SLE. However, the detailed mechanisms of increased neutrophil apoptosis in SLE remain unknown.

" Accumulibacter" is a unique and pivotal genus of polyphosphate-accumulating organisms prevalent in wastewater treatment plants and plays mainstay roles in the global phosphorus cycle. However, the efforts to fully understand their genetic and metabolic characteristics are largely hindered by major limitations in existing sequence-based annotation methods. Here, we reported an integrated approach combining pangenome analysis, protein structure prediction and clustering, and meta-omic characterization, to uncover genetic and metabolic traits previously unexplored for .

Background: Bladder urothelial carcinoma (BLCA), like other cancers, is strongly associated with genetic and epigenetic changes. TWIST1 is an epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) promoter that has been linked to the development of many malignancies. It is still unclear, however, what role TWIST1 plays in BLCA, and the relationship between TWIST1 transcript levels and its promoter methylation and immune infiltration has been reported even less.
