Rationale: Patients with atrial fibrillation and a large goiter have high perioperative risks and often cannot tolerate general anesthesia, making it necessary for us to explore new safe and effective anesthesia methods.

Patient Concerns: The patient presented with atrial fibrillation accompanied by rapid ventricular rate, a thrombus attached to the left atrial appendage, and a massive thyroid goiter compressing the airway.

Diagnosis: After the left humerus fracture surgery, the patient's internal fixation loosened and fractured, accompanied by infection, formation of sinus tracts, and suppuration.

Article Synopsis
  • Humans have a special ability to use tools thanks to the dexterity of their hands, but many lose this ability due to injuries or strokes, prompting further research on human hand function.
  • Previous studies primarily focused on coordinated movements for reaching and grasping, but there is a gap in understanding how we manipulate complex objects.
  • This study tested two hypotheses about hand synergies in manipulation compared to reaching and grasping, revealing that manipulation requires more synergies and that the specific synergies differ between the two actions, highlighting the need for more focused research to improve prosthetics and rehabilitation.

Traumatic brachial plexus lesions (TBPL) can lead to permanent impairment of hand function despite timely brachial plexus surgical treatment. In selected cases with no recovery of hand function, the affected forearm can be amputated and replaced by a bionic hand to regain prehensile function. This cross-sectional study aimed to assess (sub)cortical motor activity and functional connectivity changes after TBPL and bionic reconstruction.

Introduction: Reconstruction for open multiple transmetacarpal amputation secondary to a crushing injury is really challenging. Some treatment approaches could be proposed. To avoid the drawbacks of a prosthesis and hand transplantation such as the high cost, and long-term side effects of anti-rejection drugs, toe transfers were chosen.

Introduction: Individuals with pre-diabetes are at high risk for developing type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), which makes them prone to serious complications such as stroke, kidney failure, blindness and lower-limb amputation. Pre-diabetes can be reversed, and lifestyle modification is considered the best intervention method for diabetes prevention. However, it is difficult for individuals with pre-diabetes to maintain a long-term modified healthy lifestyle owing to psychological burnout in daily management over time due to poor adherence.
