The term vein of Galen aneurysm is related to a group of different vascular anomalies, with one common distinction being the dilatation of the vein of Galen. It represents a rear vascular anomaly, whose incidence is yet unknown, although some authors suggest numbers around 1:25000 deliveries. It accounts for only 1% of all intracranial malformations, but the percentage of this anomaly in pediatric populations is up to 30%. In most cases the diagnosis is made postnatal, while antenatal diagnosis, because of the pathophysiology of aneurysm itself, as well as pathophysiology of its possible complications, is made usually during the third trimester, frequently after the 34th week of gestation. The earliest reported diagnosis was made at 25 weeks' gestation. In this case we present 25-year old gravida, pregnancy at 28th week of gestation with aneurysm, and sonographically detected aneurysm of the vein of Galen, that ended with termination of pregnancy.

Amyloid related imaging abnormalities (ARIA) are side effects of anti-Abeta immunotherapy, which are most frequent and associated with greater morbidity in ApoE4 individuals. ARIA are characterized by neurovascular inflammation, leading either to increased vascular permeability and edema (ARIA-E), or to more severe vascular damage and microhemorrhages (ARIA-H). The mechanisms by which Abeta immunotherapy leads to ARIA remain to be established but may involve overload of the cerebral microvasculature by Abeta released from amyloid plaques.

Constipation is found in individuals with intellectual disabilities, autism, and cerebral palsy. Although generally a benign condition, it may lead to life-threatening intestinal obstruction, with or without volvulus, or to stercoral ulceration with enteritis and/or perforation. Two unusual cases of lethal chronic constipation are reported to demonstrate other very rare fatal mechanisms that may occur.

Background And Purpose: Cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) requires acute anticoagulation. Heparin is commonly used but specific recommendations on intensity and timing are lacking. We sought to characterize practice-pattern variation in the use of unfractionated heparin (UFH) for acute CVT treatment across multiple centers.

Brush sign (BS) was first reported as prominent hypointensity of deep medullary veins and subependymal veins on T2*-weighted images at 3 T MRI in patients with acute stroke in the territory of the middle cerebral artery. Subsequently, BS in central nervous system (CNS) diseases such as moyamoya disease, cerebral venous thrombosis, and Sturge-Weber syndrome was also described on susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI), and the clinical implications of BS were discussed. The purpose of this review is to demonstrate BS on SWI in various CNS diseases and its mechanisms in the above-mentioned diseases.

Optimal blood flow through a patent cerebral circulation is critical for supply of oxygen and nutrients for brain function. The integrity of vascular elements within arterial vessels of any calibre can be compromised by various disease processes. Pathological changes in the walls of veins and the venous system may also alter the dynamics of cerebral perfusion.
