Chemical redox reactions are extremely efficient to prepare fully reduced or oxidized phases that are formed during the topotactic insertion/extraction of alkaline ions. Herein, we report these reactions and discuss the possibility to generate new ordered or disordered rock salt-type structures depending on the structure of the mother phase. We have shown that a disordered rock salt-type structure is formed when the transition element is located at the tetrahedral site, as exemplified by the formation of NaVO upon chemical reduction of VO.

Analytical pyrolysis-gas chromatography/mass spectrometry(Py-GC/MS) was chosen to quantify microplastics(MPs) in edible salts: sea salt(SS), deep-sea salt(DSS), rock salt(RS), and lake salt(LS). Samples were filtered by two-step using 20 μm(MPs20) and 1 μm(MPs1) filters. Two Py-GC/MS methods with split ratios of 100/1 for high-level and 10/1 for low-level MPs were used.

LiNbHO: a new transition-metal oxyhydride with rock-salt-type structure.

Chem Commun (Camb)

December 2024

Solid State Chemistry Laboratory, Cluster for Pioneering Research (CPR), RIKEN, Saitama 351-0198, Japan.

Transition-metal oxyhydrides are an emerging class of functional materials; however, the known compounds have mostly been limited to perovskite-type sturctures. Here, we successfully synthesized LiNbHO, the first example of a rock-salt-type transition-metal oxyhydride, using mechanochemical methods. Galvanostatic charge/discharge tests revealed that LiNbHO functions as an electrode for lithium secondary batteries.

While ceramic materials are widely used in our society, their understanding of the plasticity is not fully understood. MgO is one of the prototypical ceramics, extensively investigated experimentally and theoretically. However, there is still controversy over whether edge or screw dislocations glide more easily.

NaMCl rock-salt compounds with M = Mg, Ca, Ba, Zn, Sr as components for solid-state sodium ion batteries.

Laboratory for Chemical Computation and Modeling, Institute for Computational Science and Artificial Intelligence, Van Lang University Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam

We investigate a new series of rock-salt type structures, NaMCl with M = Mg, Ca, Ba, Zn and Sr using advanced atomistic simulations. Calculated results show a direct relationship between the size of the M cation and lattice parameters as well as the defect formation energy variation. The NaCl Schottky defect type is highly favourable, and the NaBaCl structure possesses the lowest values of defect formation energies.
