Background/aim: Ovarian transplantation can preserve fertility in cancer patients. The aim of this study was to compare ovarian transplantation into granulation tissue (GT) versus back muscle (BM) sites and also to investigate the effects of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) as an antioxidant on ovarian survival in a rat autograft model.Materials and methods: Twenty-eight adult female rats were divided into four equal groups (n = 7 each) as follows: Group 1, ovarian tissue grafted into GT + saline (GT + saline); Group 2, ovarian tissue grafted into GT + NAC (GT + NAC); Group 3, ovarian tissue grafted into BM + saline (BM + saline); and Group 4, ovarian tissue grafted into BM + NAC (BM + NAC). After 28 days, serum concentrations of malondialdehyde (MDA), progesterone, and estradiol (E2) were measured. Ovarian follicle counts were performed from hematoxylin and eosin-stained slides. Furthermore, apoptosis was assessed by terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase (TdT) dUTP nick-end labeling (TUNEL). Results: There were no significant differences found in levels of MDA, progesterone, and E2 among the groups. The percentage of apoptotic granulosa cells was significantly (P < 0.05) lower in the ovarian tissue autografted in the GT + NAC group compared to the GT + saline and BM + NAC groups. In addition, the number of blood vessels formed in the ovarian tissue in the GT + NAC group was significantly higher than in the GT + saline and BM + NAC groups (P < 0.05 and P < 0.001 respectively). Conclusion: The granulation tissue site is a suitable candidate for ovarian graft in rats. Furthermore, NAC could not restore autografted ovarian functions.

Objective: To evaluate the impact of the different types of neoplasms and lineages on Sjögren syndrome (SjS) patient mortality.
Methods: Medical records review study based on the Spanish Hospital Discharge Database and the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Clinical Modification coding list. The neoplasm-related deaths in SjS patients with the general population during the period 2016-2019 were compared.
Granulosa tumors are rare tumors arising from the cells of the sexual cord and stroma of the ovary. They account for 5% of ovarian cancers and 70% of stromal cancers of the sex cords. Retroperitoneal tumors (RPTs) are also rare and develop in the retroperitoneal and subperitoneal space.

The ovarian oncobiome is subject to increasing scientific focus, but a potential link between bacterial dysbiosis and ovarian carcinogenesis remains controversial. Our primary aim was to characterize the bacterial microbiota in epithelial ovarian cancer samples. Secondarily, we aimed to compare results from the bacterial microbiota in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded ovarian tissue samples from 194 patients with epithelial ovarian cancer, fallopian tube tissue samples from 16 patients with serous tubal intraepithelial carcinomas and in benign fallopian tube tissue samples from 25 patients.

Objectives: Epithelial ovarian cancer is a significant contributor to cancer-related mortality in women, frequently recurring post-treatment, often accompanied by chemotherapy resistance. Dietary interventions have demonstrated influence on cancer progression; for instance, caloric restriction has exhibited tumor growth reduction and enhanced survival in animal cancer models. In this study, we calculated a transcriptomic signature based on caloric-restriction for ovarian cancer patients and explored its correlation with ovarian cancer progression.

Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory disorder characterized by presence of endometrial tissue outside the uterine cavity. Immunohistochemical analysis (IHC) revealed markedly elevated expression of IL6ST in endometrial tissue of patients with ovarian endometriosis. Level of methylation of IL6ST is diminished in patients with endometriosis, whereas level of mRNA expression is markedly elevated by RT-PCR.
