The gonad of jellyfish (), containing high protein content with a rich amino acid composition, is suitable for the preparation of bioactive peptides. Jellyfish gonad was hydrolysed with neutral protease to obtain jellyfish gonad protein hydrolysate (JGPH), which was then purified sequentially by ultrafiltration, gel filtration chromatography, and RP-HPLC. The peptides were characterized with HPLC-MS/MS. One peptide with amino acid sequence Ser-Tyr (SY) was identified and synthesized, which showed good ACE inhibitory and antioxidant activity. The IC of this peptide on DPPH, ·OH, super oxygen anion scavenging activities, and ACE inhibitory activity are 84.623 μM, 1177.632 μM, 456.663 μM, and 1164.179 μM, respectively. The anchor in the binding site of SY and ACE C-domain (ACE-C) was obtained by molecular simulations. The results showed that the dipeptide purified from jellyfish gonad protein hydrolysates can be used as functional food material and is helpful in the study of antioxidant and inhibition of ACE.

An undescribed species of ulmarid medusa was observed in situ and captured at 812 m depth within the Sumisu Caldera, Ogasawara Islands, Japan. Morphological and molecular evidence points to it being distinct from other ulmarid medusae and a new species (pagesi), genus (Santjordia) and subfamily (Santjordiinae) are herein erected to contain it. This new subfamily of semaeostome ulmarid medusae has both marginal and subumbrellar rhopalia, making it unique within the order Semaeostomeae.

On August 9, 2008, during the MAREM (Marmara Environmental Monitoring) project survey, a single specimen of an unknown Scyphozoa was caught with a deep-water vertical plankton haul, below the thermo-halocline interface, at maximum 1042 m hauling depth, in the Sea of Marmara (40°44'00″N, 08°00'03″E), Turkey. In the following years, 22 specimens, which ranged in diameter from 18 to 26 mm and had the same characteristics, were caught in the same water mass of the Sea of Marmara during MAREM monitoring surveys. The specimens seem to correspond most closely with the medusae described by Maas (1903), Neppi (1915), and Russell (1956).

Knowledge of the reproductive strategy is a key prerequisite to predict population dynamics and potential invasiveness of both native and non-indigenous outbreak-forming species. In 2014 the Lessepsian upside-down jellyfish Cassiopea andromeda reached the harbor of Palermo (NW Sicily, Thyrrenian Sea), to date its established westernmost outpost in the Mediterranean Sea. To predict C.
