Immune dysfunction is a well-known phenomenon in end-stage liver disease (ESLD). The pretransplant period offers a unique window for primary care physicians to optimize the transplant's vaccine protection before antirejection medications are initiated. Live vaccinations are selected cautiously but the varicella-zoster virus (VZV) vaccine, Zostavax, is recommended for pretransplant candidates. This case highlights an ESLD patient who developed disseminated cutaneous VZV within 30 days of vaccination.

Background: Data on barriers to live-kidney donation in the rural United States is limited despite its widespread adoption across the country.
Methods: A retrospective review of 1776 self-referrals for live-kidney donation between June 1, 2012, and May 31, 2022, was conducted. Multivariate analyses evaluated independent factors which may have potentially influenced donation at different stages in its process.

Purpose: Corneal dysmorphologies (CDs) are typically classified as either regressive degenerative corneal dystrophies (CDtrs) or defective growth and differentiation-driven corneal dysplasias (CDyps). Both eye disorders have multifactorial etiologies. While previous work has elucidated many aspects of CDs, such as presenting symptoms, epidemiology, and pathophysiology, the genetic mechanisms remain incompletely understood.

Patch retention, which resembles structures such as unburned patches remaining after wildfire, is one practice implemented within the framework of Ecosystem-based Forest Management (EBM), which seeks to use natural forests as a model and minimize differences in natural and managed forests. Despite the widespread adoption of patch retention practices, few comparisons of the attributes of postfire and postharvest islands, or their drivers, have been made.

Dengue fever is caused by the mosquito-borne dengue virus (DENV), which is endemic in more than 100 countries. Annually, there are approximately 390 million dengue cases, with a small subset manifesting into severe illnesses, such as dengue haemorrhagic fever or dengue shock syndrome. Current treatment options for dengue infections remain supportive management due to the lack of an effective vaccine and clinically approved antiviral.

DNA vaccines are third-generation vaccines composed of plasmids that encode vaccine antigens. Their advantages include fast development, safety, stability, and cost effectiveness, which make them an attractive vaccine platform for genetic and infectious diseases. However, the low transfection efficiency of DNA vaccines results in poor performance in both larger animals and humans, thereby limiting their clinical use.
