Ultrathin two-dimensional (2D) polymeric layers are capable of separating gases and molecules based on the reported size exclusion mechanism. What is equally important but missing today is an exploration of the 2D layers with charge functionality, which enables applications using the charge exclusion principle. This work demonstrates a simple and scalable method of synthesizing a free-standing 2D coordination polymer Zn(benzimidazolate)(OH) at the air-water interface. The hydroxyl (-OH) groups are stoichiometrically coordinated and implement electrostatic charges in the 2D structures, providing powerful functionality as a charge barrier. Electrochemical performance of the Li-S battery shows that the Zn(benzimidazolate)(OH) coordination polymer layers efficiently mitigate the polysulfide shuttling effects and largely enhance the battery capacity and cycle performance. The synthesis of the proposed coordination polymeric layers is simple, scalable, cost saving, and promising for practical use in batteries.

regenerates one head when cut, but how forces shaping the head are coordinated remains unclear. Soft compression of 's head-regenerating tissues induces the formation of viable, two-headed animals. Compression creates new topological defects in the supracellular orientational order of muscular actin fibers, associated with additional heads.

For Zn metal batteries, the Zn anode faces several challenges, including Zn dendrites, hydrogen evolution, and corrosion. These issues are closely related to the Zn deposition process at the electrode/electrolyte interface. Herein, we propose interfacial engineering to protect the Zn anode and induce homogeneous deposition using conjugated cyclized polyacrylonitrile (cPAN) polymer nanofibers.

Paddlewheel-type diruthenium(II,II) complexes are paramagnetic with two unpaired electrons ( = 1) and can be utilized as versatile building blocks for higher-order structures, such as supramolecular complexes, coordination polymers, and metal-organic frameworks, although they are generally highly air-sensitive. In this study, we developed an air-stable paddlewheel-type diruthenium(II,II) complex with two electron-withdrawing 1,8-naphthyridine-2-carboxylate (npc) ligands, [Ru(μ-npc)(OCMe)] (1). The two acetate ligands in 1 can be replaced by other carboxylate ligands; the solvothermal reactions of 1 with benzoic acid (HOCPh) yields the heteroleptic [Ru(μ-npc)(OCPh)] (2), whereas its reaction with 1,8-naphthyridine-2-carboxylic acid (Hnpc) produces the homoleptic [Ru(μ-npc)(η-npc)] (3).

Neutral mesoionic carbenes (MICs) based on a 1,2,3-triazole core have had a strong impact on various branches of chemistry such as homogeneous catalysis, electrocatalysis, and photochemistry/photophysics. We present here the first general synthesis of anionic mesoionic carbenes (anMICs) based on a 1,2,3-triazole core and a borate backbone. The free anMIC is stable in solution under an inert atmosphere at low temperatures, and can be stored for several weeks.
