Usability gaps between current and future improved Electronic Health Record (EHR) system designs exist due to insufficient incorporation of User-Centered Design (UCD) principles during System Development Life Cycle (SDLC). Usability of a commercial, inpatient EHR clinical notes documentation interface was analyzed from standpoints of two provider groups employing two standardized patient cases. Both objective and subjective data were collected from attending (n = 6) and resident physicians (n = 8) through usability testing employing a mixed method approach. The study results suggested that (i) EHR usability and desirability is influenced by user characteristics, (ii) workloads associated with H&P and progress notes writing are perceived differently between two groups, (iii) repeated task performance improves user efficiency and (iv) user performance is correlated to their subjective system assessments. Understanding usability of clinical documentation interface from perspectives of two different user groups, provides interface designers with an opportunity to develop an EHR system centered on UCD principles.

This case report describes the clinical course of a 78-year-old patient diagnosed with polycythemia vera (PV), who presented with pronounced acrocyanosis of the hands in 2021. The patient was treated with hydroxyurea (oncocarbide), and nailfold capillaroscopy revealed an "abnormal pattern" characterized by pronounced architectural disarray and capillary tortuosity, which is uncommon in patients with myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs). In 2023, owing to suboptimal symptom management and hematological side effects, the treatment was switched to ruxolitinib, which led to significant clinical improvements by 2024, including near-complete resolution of acrocyanosis and substantial improvement in capillaroscopic abnormalities, with only residual capillary tortuosity noted.

The objective of this study is to explore the impact of the use of granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) in female undergoing assisted reproductive technology (ART) on reproductive outcomes. A literature search was performed using electronic databases (PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, CNKI, Wanfang data, Geen Medical, and Cochrane Library). Risk ratio (RR), odds ratio (OR), and mean difference (MD) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) for various outcomes were presented.

The objective of this study is to fabricate and develop hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) hydrogel (HG)-based composite bone cements with incorporation of hydroxyapatite (HA), beta-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP), and with/without polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) for vertebroplasty. For animal study, twenty female Wister rats (250-300 g, 12 weeks of age) were divided into four groups including a two non-ovariectomy (NOVX) groups and two ovariectomy (OVX)-induced osteoporosis groups. Two prepared biocomposites including HG/β-TCP/HA and HG/β-TCP/HA/PMMA were injected into the tibial defects of both OVX and NOVX rats for evaluating in vivo osteogenesis after 12 weeks.

Low-volume transanal irrigation (TAI) in the treatment of functional faecal incontinence in children: a cohort study.

Int J Colorectal Dis

January 2025

Department of Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, Aarhus University Hospital, Palle Juul-Jensens, Boulevard 99, 8200, Aarhus N, Denmark.

Purpose: Functional faecal incontinence (FFI) is a stigmatising condition for a child and parents and can be a challenge to treat even in tertiary centres. Transanal irrigation (TAI) is an emerging treatment with great success in refractory cases. We performed TAI with a substantially decreased amount of water used (low-volume TAI), yet no previous evidence exists on this treatment in children.
