Hearing loss trajectory and prediction model for children with enlarged vestibular aqueduct.

Am J Otolaryngol

December 2024

Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Beijing Tongren Hospital, Capital Medical University, Beijing, China; Beijing Institute of Otolaryngology, Beijing, China; Key Laboratory of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, Ministry of Education, Beijing, China. Electronic address:

Purpose: To explore how hearing changes over time and the characteristics associated with progressive hearing loss in children with enlarged vestibular aqueduct (EVA), and develop a prediction model for anticipation of hearing progression probability.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 48 children (92 ears) diagnosed with EVA. A total of 314 audiograms were included in the analysis of hearing loss trajectories using linear mixed-effects model.

An Intermediate-Aided Perovskite Phase Purification for High-Performance Solar Cells.

J Am Chem Soc

December 2024

Key Laboratory of Photoelectric Conversion and Utilization of Solar Energy, Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Dalian, Liaoning 116023, China.

In recent years, perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have garnered considerable attention as a prime candidate for next-generation photovoltaic technology. Ensuring the structural stability of perovskites is crucial to the operational reliability of these devices. However, the nonphotoactive yellow phase (δ-FAPbI) of formamidine (FA)-based perovskites is more favorable in thermodynamics, making it challenging to achieve pure α phase in crystallization.

Co-doped ZIF-8 as a water-stable visible light photocatalyst was prepared by using a one-pot, fast, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly method. The band structure of ZIF-8 was tuned through the incorporation of different percentages of cobalt to attain an optimal band gap ( ) that enables the activation of ZIF-8 under visible light and minimizes the recombination of photogenerated charge carriers. A magnetic composite of Co-doped ZIF-8 was also synthesized to facilitate catalyst recycling and reusability through the application of an external magnetic field.

Replications are important for assessing the reliability of published findings. However, they are costly, and it is infeasible to replicate everything. Accurate, fast, lower-cost alternatives such as eliciting predictions could accelerate assessment for rapid policy implementation in a crisis and help guide a more efficient allocation of scarce replication resources.

The issue of long charging time for electric vehicles has been a matter of serious concern, and the problem is mainly stemmed from the graphite anode. The slow kinetics of pure graphite can lead to the formation of the lithium metal during fast charging, which triggers cycle degradation and safety issues of electric vehicles. In order to ameliorate the fast charging issue, a spherical hard carbon/graphite porous electrode is devised.
