Background: Pediatric ophthalmologists are increasingly expected to promote, preserve, and restore binocular vision.
Methods: Clinical studies on restoring alignment and stereopsis in the management of amblyopia, esotropia, exotropia, and complex strabismus are reviewed from the perspective of the author's published work and personal experiences.
Results: Treatment of amblyopia by means of optical rehabilitation, occlusion, or penalization has been reinforced by medical treatment and perceptual training with monocular or binocular video games. Studies indicate that early management of esotropia and alignment within 8 is required for regaining stereopsis. In the surgical management of intermittent exotropia, distance stereopsis by Frisby Davis Distance stereotest can predict better stereopsis, with patients having preoperative distance stereopsis of <70 arcsec less likely to improve after surgery. The surgeon's armamentarium for correcting alignment and restoring binocular vision include procedures such as adjustable, partial vertical rectus muscle transposition in cases of exotropic Duane syndrome and lateral rectus palsy, periosteal fixation of the globe or of the lateral rectus muscle, and medial transposition of the split lateral rectus muscle.
Conclusions: The goal for present-day strabismologists is not merely to correct strabismus but also to achieve alignment of eyes in time to ensure normal development of stereopsis in children and to restore alignment and stereopsis in adults.

Importance: Cochlear implants enable improvements in speech perception, but music perception outcomes remain variable. Image-guided cochlear implant programming has emerged as a potential programming strategy for increasing the quality of spectral information delivered through the cochlear implant to improve outcomes.
Objectives: To perform 2 experiments, the first of which modeled the variance in music perception scores as a function of electrode positioning factors, and the second of which evaluated image-guided cochlear implant programming as a strategy to improve music perception with a cochlear implant.

To evaluate the safety and efficacy of cataract extraction combined with multifocal intraocular lens (IOL) optic implantation in Berger space in school-age children with cataracts. It was a prospective study. The clinical data of school-age children with cataract who underwent cataract extraction combined with multifocal IOL implantation at Qingdao Eye Hospital of Shandong First Medical University from January 2019 to June 2023 were collected.

Purpose: This study compares the functional outcomes of correction using two different types of aberrational extended depth-of-focus (EDOF) intraocular lenses (IOLs).
Material And Methods: The study was conducted in two standardized groups (20 patients, 20 eyes in each group). Patients in group 1 were implanted EDOF IOL I, in group 2 - EDOF IOL II.

Background: A new, portable computerized distance vision testing (screen plus remote) system called VisionKeys has been developed by the missions equipment developer EyeMobil so we validated it compared to conventional research testing devices.
Methods: Using a standardized protocol of surround HOTV optotype presentation, the VisionKeys was compared to M&S for patched monocular distance visual acuity. A different VisionKeys function with anaglyph spectacle distance stereopsis was compared to near stereo on Titmus circles with Polaroid goggles and PDI Check on an autostereoscopic screen.

Background: Concussions are mild traumatic brain injuries that often cause vision problems. They have significant impacts on everyday life, cognitive capacity, and sports performance, and may affect injury prevalence in fast contact sports such as ice hockey. A functional vision questionnaire specifically designed for sports was used here to study the correlation between vision problems and concussion history.
