Precession and relaxation predominantly characterize the real-time dynamics of a spin driven by a magnetic field and coupled to a large Fermi sea of conduction electrons. We demonstrate an anomalous precession with frequency higher than the Larmor frequency or with inverted orientation in the limit where the electronic motion adiabatically follows the spin dynamics. For a classical spin, the effect is traced back to a geometrical torque resulting from a finite spin Berry curvature.

Biological structures provide inspiration for developing advanced materials from sustainable resources, enabling passive structural morphing. Despite an increasing interest for parsimony-oriented innovation, sustainable shape-changing materials based on renewable resources remain underexplored. In this work, the architecture of a single plant fiber cell wall (S, for instance) is simplified to design novel concepts of 4D printed tubular moisture-driven structural actuators, using the hygromorphic properties of continuous flax fiber (cFF) reinforced materials.

Background: Peyronie's disease curvature assessment is a critical step for patient assessment; however, tools for objective, unbiased, and reproducible quantification are currently limited.
Aim: To develop an automated computational tool to identify the penis from a 2D image and to accurately and reproducibly measure the degree of angulation.
Methods: We developed PenoMeter using instance segmentation to identify penile anatomical components, key point detection to identify shaft corners, geometric calculations to locate and measure the angulation of the point of maximal curvature.

Background: The rates of surgeries for ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) injuries continue to rise for baseball pitchers. The physical size of pitchers has also increased, bringing into question whether today's larger pitchers have proportionally bigger and stronger UCLs able to withstand greater elbow varus torque. Furthermore, controversy exists in biomechanics literature regarding whether kinetics during pitching should be reported as torque (in N·m) or normalized torque (scaled by body weight and height).

Aiming at the complex geometric nonlinearity and contact behavior of threaded connections, this study proposes a novel approach by constructing a finite element model equivalent to the Iwan model for nonlinear analysis. The innovation of this work lies in the development of a subroutine based on the Iwan model, which effectively simulates the nonlinear contact behavior inherent in threaded connections during tightening. This is followed by constructing a finite element model in Abaqus software to investigate the relationship between the applied torque and the preload force of the threads.

A magnetic vortex is one of the fundamental and topologically nontrivial spin textures in condensed matter physics. Magnetic vortices are usually the ground states in geometrically restricted ferromagnets with zero magnetocrystalline anisotropy. Magnetic vortices have recently been proposed for use in a variety of spintronics applications due to their resistance to thermal perturbations, flexibility in changing core polarity, simple patterning procedure, and potential uses in magnetic data storage with substantial density, sensors for the magnetic field, devices for logic operations, and other related fields.
