Purpose: The study was aimed to compare and evaluate the changes in the impact strength of heat cure denture base resins when treated using denture cleansers.

Methodology: Study was conducted with sample size of 40 and dimesion 65 mm length, 10 mm width, and 3 mm thickness as per the ISO 1567. Distilled water has been used as control group, in which 10 samples were immersed of 40 samples. Of remaining 30 samples, 10 were treated with Clinsodent, 10 were treated with VI-Clean, and 10 were treated with Clanden denture cleansers. The impact strength of these specimens from each group was tested with the help of Charpy-type pendulum impact strength tester. The energy absorbed to fracture the specimens was recorded, and impact strength was calculated and was analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis ANOVA and Mann-Whitney test.

Results: Impact strength of samples was significantly reduced after immersion in denture cleansers Clinsodent, VI-Clean, and Clanden solutions when compared to control group.

Conclusion: Clinsodent, VI-Clean, and Clanden denture cleansers decrease the impact strength of heat cure denture base resin after immersion. Hence, the study concludes that denture cleansers should be used with caution and advised to follow manufacturer's instructions.

Work-related Fatigue: Relationship between Perceived and Performance Fatigability in Career Firefighters.

J Occup Environ Med

November 2024

Neuromuscular and Occupational Performance Laboratory, Department of Kinesiology and Sport Management, Texas Tech University, Lubbock, TX, United States.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to 1) examine the relationship between perceived work-related fatigue and performance fatigability, and 2) assess the impact of percent body fat (%BF) on perceived fatigue constructs in career firefighters.

Methods: Thirty-nine career firefighters completed body composition testing, the Occupational Fatigue Exhaustion Recovery (OFER15) scale assessing three subscales of work-related fatigue (acute fatigue, chronic fatigue, and inter-shift recovery), and maximal leg extensor isometric strength testing prior to and following an isotonic fatiguing protocol.

Results: Performance fatigability was not associated with any of the OFER15 perceived work-related fatigue variables (P ≥ 0.

An analytical study of active earth pressure in cohesive soil considering interlayer shear stress.

PLoS One

Ltd Project Construction Management Company, Jiangxi Provincial Communications Investment Group Co., Nanchang, China.

The impact of interlayer shear stress on the distribution of earth pressure in cohesive soil is notable, but currently, there lacks a comprehensive theory that integrates this factor in the calculation of active earth pressure. Drawing from the Mohr stress circle specific to clay soils, a formula to calculate interlayer shear stress has been derived. Moreover, a robust model has been formulated to compute the active earth pressure in clay soils, incorporating elements such as interlayer shear stress, effects of displacement, soil arching, and the morphology of the sliding surface.

Enhanced bone cement for fixation of prosthetic joint utilizing nanoparticles.

J Mater Sci Mater Med

January 2025

Biomedical Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering, Helwan University, Cairo, Egypt.

Bone cement is commonly utilized to secure prosthetic joints in the body because of its robust fixation, stability, biocompatibility, and immediate load-bearing capability. However, issues such as loosening, leakage, and insufficient bioactivity can lead to its failure. Therefore, improving its mechanical, physical, and biological properties is crucial for enhancing its efficiency.
