Emerging medical devices which employ shape memory polymers (SMPs) require precise measurements of the glass transition temperature (T) to ensure highly controlled shape recovery kinetics. Conventional techniques like differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) have limitations that prevent utilization for certain devices, including limited accuracy and the need for sacrificial samples. In this report, we employ an approach based on Brillouin spectroscopy to probe the glass transition of SMPs rapidly, remotely, and nondestructively. Further, we compare the T obtained from Brillouin scattering with DMA- and DSC-measured T to demonstrate the accuracy of Brillouin scattering for this application. We conclude that Brillouin spectroscopy is an accurate technique for obtaining the glass transition temperature of SMPs, aligning closely with the most common laboratory standards while providing a rapid, remote, and nondestructive method for the analysis of unique polymeric medical devices.

Chlorogenic acid (CGA) has strong antioxidant properties. In order to improve the low maturation rate and poor vitrification freezing effect of sheep oocytes caused by oxidative stress. In this study, oocytes from 200 2-3-year-old Kazakh sheep were collected, and different concentrations of CGA were added to the maturation medium and vitrification freezing solution to study the effects of CGA on the maturation rate, cleavage rate, blastocyst rate, reactive oxygen species (ROS) and glutathione (GSH) levels, mitochondrial membrane potential, and the expression levels of oxidation and apoptosis-related genes in sheep oocytes.

A transparent fluoroborosilicate glass ceramic was designed for the controllable precipitation of fluoride nanocrystals and to greatly enhance the photoluminescence of active ions. Through the introduction of BO into fluorosilicate glass, the melting temperature was decreased from 1400 to 1050 °C, and the abnormal crystallization in the fabrication process of fluorosilicate glass was avoided. More importantly, the controlled crystallizations of KZnF and KYbF in fluoroborosilicate glass ceramics enhanced the emission of Mn and Mn-Yb dimers by 6.

As the rubber industry seeks sustainable alternatives to mitigate its environmental impact, this study introduces a biobased approach using polyfarnesene rubber reinforced with plasma-modified cellulose nanocrystals (MCNC) and nanofibers (MCNF). The nanocellulose was modified by plasma-induced polymerization using trans-β-farnesene and was characterized by FTIR, XPS, XRD, TGA, and SEM to confirm the grafting of farnesene-derived polymer chains onto the cellulose surface, demonstrating the successful modification and integration of the nanoparticles. Polyfarnesene bio-based rubbers were synthesized through two different polymerization techniques: solution-based coordination polymerization (PFA1) and emulsion-based free radical polymerization (PFA2).
