A series of novel methyl cellulose (MC) composite films were prepared using polyethyleneimine reduced graphene oxide (PEI-RGO) as an effective filler for water vapor barrier application. The as-prepared PEI-RGO/MC composites were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, tensile test and scanning electron microscopy. The experimental and theoretical results exhibited that PEI-RGO was uniformly dispersed in the MC matrix without aggregation and formed an aligned dispersion. The addition of PEI-RGO resulted in an enhanced surface hydrophobicity and a tortuous diffusion pathway for water molecules. Water vapor permeability of PEI-RGO/MC with loading of 3.0% of surface modified graphene was as low as 5.98×10gmmsPa. The synergistic effects of enhanced surface hydrophobicity and tortuous diffusion pathway were accounted for the improved water vapor barrier performance of the PEI-RGO/MC composite films.

Following the establishment of Nepal's first medical college in 1972, forensic medicine was introduced in 1978. To date, 25 medical colleges in the country have included forensic medicine as a compulsory subject in the undergraduate medical curriculum. Although this subject has been introduced into the medical curriculum, the outcome is unsatisfactory, as reflected by the poor medico-legal reports prepared by newly graduated medical students.

Under sustained global warming, Arctic climate is projected to become more responsive to changes in North Pacific meridional heat transport as a result of teleconnections between low and high latitudes, but the underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood. Here, we reconstruct subarctic humidity changes over the past 400 kyr to investigate the role of low-to-high latitude interactions in regulating Arctic hydroclimate. Our reconstruction is based on precipitation-driven sediment input variations in the Subarctic North Pacific (SANP), which reveal a strong precessional cycle in subarctic humidity under the relatively low eccentricity variations that dominated the past four glacial-interglacial cycles.

The preparation of low-carbon cementitious materials through the synergistic coupling of multiple solid wastes has great potential for development, which can improve the problems of resource shortage and environmental pollution. In this paper, a new type of supersulfated cement was developed by using calcium carbide residue (CCR) as an alkaline activator. The effects of CCR content on the mechanical properties and hydration behaviors of the samples under steam curing conditions were discussed.

This study focused on developing biodegradable packaging films based on starch as an alternative to non-biodegradable such as petroleum-derived synthetic polymers. To improve its physicochemical properties, potato starch was chemically modified through phosphorylation. Starch phosphorylation was carried out using cyclic 1,3-propanediol phosphoryl chloride (CPPC), produced phosphorylated starch (PS), and analyzed using Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA).

This study investigates steam washing (SW) as an innovative pretreatment for municipal solid waste incineration fly ash (MSWI-FA) dechlorination, useful for a more effective stabilization in cementitious matrix. By using a detailed analytical approach (XRPD, XRF, ICP-MS, IRMS, SEM) and geochemical modeling, great focus is dedicated on pollutant leaching reduction and changes in ash physicochemical characteristics as a function of exposure time. The research demonstrates that SW removes up to 70 % cadmium, 17 % zinc, and 10 % lead, primarily by dissolving the soluble and carbonate/hydroxide fractions and promoting the reprecipitation and adsorption of heavy metals into more stable compounds.
