Purpose Of Review: To give an overview of the laryngeal preservation and functional outcomes of patients treated with transoral CO2 laser microsurgery (TLM) or radiotherapy for T2 glottic carcinoma. This information supports physicians and patients in treatment counselling and choices.

Recent Findings: A recent systematic review showed that local control rates at 5-year did not differ between radiotherapy and TLM for T2 glottic tumours. However, there is a lack of comparative data on laryngeal preservation as well as functional outcomes in T2 glottic carcinoma.

Summary: Laryngeal preservation for T2 tumours in this review is higher for patients treated primarily with TLM (88.8 vs. 79.0%). It is important to differentiate between tumours with normal and impaired mobility (T2a and T2b) because the latter showed poorer prognosis for both TLM and radiotherapy. Involvement of the anterior commissure does not result in significantly lower oncological results, if adequately staged and treated. More studies are needed to support these data and to compare the functional outcomes between TLM and radiotherapy for T2 glottic carcinoma.

Background: /aims. Pseudoxanthoma Elasticum (PXE, OMIM 264800) is an autosomal, recessive, metabolic disorder characterized by progressive ectopic calcification in the skin, the vasculature and Bruch's membrane. Variants in the ABCC6 gene are associated with low plasma pyrophosphate (PPi) concentration.

Background: Maintaining gut health is a persistent and unresolved challenge in the poultry industry. Given the critical role of gut health in chicken performance and welfare, there is a pressing need to identify effective gut health intervention (GHI) strategies to ensure optimal outcomes in poultry farming. In this study, across three broiler production cycles, we compared the metagenomes and performance of broilers provided with ionophores (as the control group) against birds subjected to five different GHI combinations involving vaccination, probiotics, prebiotics, essential oils, and reduction of ionophore use.

Ulinastatin treatment mitigates glycocalyx degradation and associated with lower postoperative delirium risk in patients undergoing cardiac surgery: a multicentre observational study.

Crit Care

Department of Anesthesiology, Hubei Key Laboratory of Geriatric Anesthesia and Perioperative Brain Health, Wuhan Clinical Research Center for Geriatric Anesthesia, Tongji Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, 1095# Jiefang Ave, Wuhan, 430030, China.

Background: Ulinastatin (UTI), recognized for its anti-inflammatory properties, holds promise for patients undergoing cardiac surgery. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between intraoperative UTI administration and the incidence of delirium following cardiac surgery.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on a retrospective cohort of 6,522 adult cardiac surgery patients to evaluate the relationship between UTI treatment and the incident of postoperative delirium (POD) in patients ongoing cardiac surgery.

Background: Construct validity and responsiveness of upper limb outcome measures are essential to interpret motor recovery poststroke. Evaluating the associations between clinical upper limb measures and sensor-based arm use (AU) fosters a coherent understanding of motor recovery. Defining sensor-based AU metrics for intentional upper limb movements could be crucial in mitigating bias from walking-related activities.

Background: The aim of the SURECAN trial is to evaluate a person-centred intervention, based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT Plus ( +)), for people who have completed treatment for cancer with curative intent, but are experiencing poor quality of life. We present the statistical analysis plan for assessing the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of the intervention in improving quality of life 1 year post randomisation.

Methods And Design: SURECAN is a multi-centre, pragmatic, two-arm, partially clustered randomised controlled superiority trial comparing the effectiveness of ACT + added to usual care with usual aftercare.
