Genomes can be compared at different levels of divergence, either between species or within species. Within species genomes can be compared between different subpopulations, such as human subpopulations from different continents. Investigating the genomic differences between different human subpopulations is important when studying complex diseases that are affected by many genetic variants, as the variants involved can differ between populations. The 1000 Genomes Project collected genome-scale variation data for 2504 human individuals from 26 different populations, enabling a systematic comparison of variation between human subpopulations. In this chapter, we present step-by-step a basic protocol for the identification of population-specific variants employing the 1000 Genomes data. These variants are subsequently further investigated for those that affect the proteome or RNA splice sites, to investigate potentially biologically relevant differences between the populations.

Background: The online nature of decision aids (DAs) and related e-tools supporting women's decision-making regarding breast cancer screening (BCS) through mammography may facilitate broader access, making them a valuable addition to BCS programs.

Objective: This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to evaluate the scientific evidence on the impacts of these e-tools and to provide a comprehensive assessment of the factors associated with their increased utility and efficacy.

Methods: We followed the 2020 PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines and conducted a search of MEDLINE, PsycINFO, Embase, CINAHL, and Web of Science databases from August 2010 to April 2023.

Epidemiological profile of mortality in indigenous children under five years of age in Brazil: an integrative literature review.

Cien Saude Colet

January 2025

Departamento de Epidemiologia e Métodos Quantitativos em Saúde, Escola Nacional de Saúde Pública Sergio Arouca, Fundação Oswaldo Cruz. Rio de Janeiro RJ Brasil.

The aim is to identify the epidemiological profile of mortality among Brazilian indigenous children under five years of age, through an integrative review. Articles that evaluated the mortality of indigenous Brazilian children under one and/or five years of age, from 2000 to 2020, in Portuguese, English, and/or Spanish, in the LILACS, SciELO, and MEDLINE databases were included. Of the 3,229 publications found, 22 were included in the review.

Transforming practices into models: paths towards a Health Care Network for the Homeless Population.

Cien Saude Colet

January 2025

Instituto René Rachou/Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (Fiocruz Minas). Av. Augusto de Lima 1715, Barro Preto. 30190-002 Belo Horizonte MG Brasil.

The Homeless Population (HP) has grown exponentially in the last decade, causing different challenges for the Brazilian Unified Health System, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. A cross-sectional, descriptive, and exploratory study, with triangulated quantitative and qualitative methods, was conducted from 2020 to 2022, exploring care practices geared to the HP in Belo Horizonte. The quantitative stage adopted official datasets from the health and social assistance secretariats, and 48 semi-structured interviews and four focus groups were conducted in the qualitative stage, totaling 86 participants.

This article aims to identify the relationship between material deprivation and mortality from breast, cervical, and prostate neoplasms in the Brazilian adult population and the relationship between ethnicity/skin color and material deprivation. This cross-sectional ecological study calculated the mean mortality rate per 100,000 inhabitants, and deaths were standardized by age and gender and redistributed per to ill-defined causes, stratified by age group and ethnicity/skin color. We applied the Negative Binomial model, containing the interaction between ethnicity/skin color and the Brazilian Deprivation Index (IBP).

January 2025

Departamento de Saúde Interdisciplinaridade e Reabilitação, Faculdade de Ciências Médicas, Universidade Estadual de Campinas - UNICAMP - Campinas (SP), Brasil.

Purpose: To verify possible correlations between fo and voice satisfaction among Brazilian transgender people.

Methods: An observational, cross-sectional quantitative study was conducted with the Trans Woman Voice Questionnaire (TWVQ), voice recording (sustained vowel and automatic speech) and extraction of seven acoustic measurements related to fo position and variability in transgender people. Participants were divided into two groups according to gender.
