Background: The increase in severe acute respiratory coronavirus virus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) cases due to the omicron strain led to reduced acute care hospital beds at the Veterans Administration (VA) Hospital, North Texas; veterans with non-severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) disease were managed at a community living center (CLC), a VA nursing home. The management of non-severe COVID-19 in VA nursing homes has not been extensively described.
Methods: We describe resident characteristics and outcomes, and infection control practices implemented during 2 COVID-19 outbreak periods (January 12-February 15, 2022, June 28-July 14, 2023).

The Ministry of Health and Welfare's "Pilot Program of Home Care for Acute Symptoms", launched in 2024, and complementary measures for long-term care services are introduced in this article. The goal of the pilot program is to provide appropriate home medical care to specific emergency patients as an alternative to hospitalization, allowing the extension of emergency care from hospitals to home and residential institutions and connecting long-term care resources during and after acute care. Given that many of those targeted by the pilot program are individuals with mobility issues or who require long-term care, and thus subject to higher levels of treatment difficulty and care service demand, the Ministry has relaxed the rules initially set for this program.

We conducted a quality improvement (QI) intervention to systematize fall risk assessment and prevention in older adults hospitalized on general internal medicine wards.

Background: Reducing unnecessary emergency department (ED) visits following joint arthroplasty is an important goal. Literature suggests 30-day visit rates range between 4% and 15%, with only 20%-25% of these admitted for care. Low admissions suggest an opportunity to reduce unnecessary postarthroplasty ED visits.
